Show us your music collection

Recommended Posts

Ever wanted to show others what your CD shelf looks like, or see the CD collection of other members? Now you can do it.

I'll make the start:

My collection

Upper shelf:

Far left: My left rear speaker ;)

Upper left row: Non-classical/non-film music CDs

Rest: Classical collection

(Some CDs that didn't fit in the normal rows are currently placed on top of the upper right row; also the CDR boxes on top of the lower left row contain CDs that didn't fit where they belong)

Middle shelf:

Far left: Music DVDs

Rest: DVDs - TV series, followed by movies

Lower shelf: Soundtracks

Upper left: Compilations - Goldenthal

Lower left: Goldsmith - Kilar

Upper right: Kilar - Waxman

Lower right: Williams - Young

So, show us your photos.

Marian - waiting. :)

I see you're better at collecting TV series than me...I've got four so far, but only one season of each.

I've got to get some money so I can afford 24:3 when it comes out...

Marian - who thinks this is fun. :)

If only I had a digital camera, I could show you a TV DVD collection! I'll see if I can borrow one...

And yes, this is fun. I like seeing all your collections. I'll see if I can't get mine up sometime.

The UK release of 24: Day 3 is already out, but I'm waiting until February 2005 to get the Dutch release (the previous two are also Dutch releases, and I like some continuity).

What's the fourth TV series? I see The Simpsons, Futurama and 24, but I can't identify the other one.

This photo was taken about 7 months ago, so my collection has changed a little bit, but not too much.

This isn't a recent photo (January 2003) and was taken with a regular camera, so the resolution isn't the best, but you get the idea. My CDs have overflowed to the point where I need a secondary storage unit (the one you see is designed to hold 548 or so CDs). The CDs at the time were arranged alpha by title, but before that it was alpha by composer/alpha by title. I've since then gone back to that. The main shelf are all movie soundtracks, while on the far right, you can barely make out the misc stuff (concert works by film composers, some classical, etc.) The first title on the main shelf is The 13th Warrior and the very last is Young Sherlock Holmes. You can also make out the various Star Trek albums in there.

At the top you can make out the Rhino Ben-Hur soundtrack and the Star Wars Anthology set in front of an old Superman II poster. In the mirror you see a reflection of an Audrey Hepburn poster and a different (I think European) version of the Braveheart poster. The tagline is completely different: "His passion captivated a woman. His courage inspired a nation. He heart defied a king." (Much better than the "Every man dies. Not every man really lives," eh?) Artoo is that old radio controlled toy put out by Kenner in 1979.

Likewise, I'm waiting for the US version (and money), because I have the US release of season 2.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Marian - out of money.

I see.

I notice you also have the R1 BttF box. I really wish we could've gotten all those extras as well. I don't need no stinking DTS on an almost 20-year-old movie. Give me some extras?

And did you get to exchange your BttF II and III discs, or did you wait and buy the V2 boxset?

Take Marian's and Mr. Breathmask's, and divide by 2 and you have mine

I like DTS, but supposedly there wasn't any audible difference for the BTTF movies...and the merits of DTS on a soundtrack that runs 4% too fast are debatable, anyway. :)

And did you get to exchange your BttF II and III discs, or did you wait and buy the V2 boxset?

I got it right when it came out, so I didn't know about the errors right away. (They're very obvious when watching the second one, BTW). It took several months, but they send me corrected replacement discs without any problems. I now have II and III both with and without errors.

Marian - realising he hasn't watched II and III since he got the new discs.

What do you mean? Has a new box set been released without errors? I haven't bought any BttF DVD's because of those faulty discs...

My collection is scattered in several shelves around the house. I've been thinking of getting a mega-shelf like Neil's for both CD's and DVD's, but until then I'll have to decide whether to post several pictures or put it all together for just one.

Like Marian said, I don't think they've released a fixed version. Your best bet is to just buy the set, check if you have the V2's, and if you don't, contact the Universal office in Belgium.

same here - all my stuff is hidden behind doors so you can't see it - no cd or dvd cabinet around here.

Open the doors.

Take a picture.

Close the doors.

That's what I did.

Where do I check this? Is there any label, or do I have to watch the movie? (Otherwise I tell the people from the store to check.) Thanks for the help!

Great cabinet, Neil. No point asking you where you bought it, I could not get one.

My puny collection:

shelves, behind glass

column cabinet

(update: I made additional shelves in summer 2007)

Roughly, here are the rough categories I have:

Goldsmith & Williams (top, top white shelves you can make out behind)

Western, Broughton, Poledouris, various composers (top, bottom white shelf)

Favorites (Goldsmith, Williams, Disney, a very few other) (top, case)

Space, Action, "Dark", Water, Horner (bottom, case)

Animation, Action, Various, promos (bottom, white shelves behind)

Compilations & Promos

Various things on the top of the shelves (Star Trek, James Bond, Tyler, Ottman, Horner, ...)

E.T., Gremlins, Batman and Ghostbusters LP on the left

Star Wars Anthology & Disney Legacy on the right

Lots more on the sides now. And more on my desk and in front of my computer (current rotation).

The Goldsmith set & Young Sherlock Holmes are actually kept elsewhere, behind glass-- i took off the glass doors here for the picture, by the way.

DVD's: no picture yet, but you couldn't see much-- several piles in front of one another-- the best I could do

If you want to check if you have the V2's, you could watch the film and look out if the framing is alright. These are some good shots to check:

compare+jacket.jpg

drive+in+compair.jpg

The red lines are the V1's.

Please note: Belgium DVDs will NOT have the V2 mark on them. However, there is a way to see on the disc if it is V2 or not. If the disc is a V2, you will find "2003" below the copyright warning that's printed on the disc. If there is no year, you have the misframed discs, and you should contact Universal. For Belgium, this should be your best bet:

Christine Slock

Sales Support Retail Benelux

Universal Pictures (Benelux) N.V.

Generaal de Wittelaan 17 bus 26

2800 Mechelen

Belgium

Christine.Slock@unistudios.com

That's the adress a lot of people used in the past, at least.

You can also check this for more info.

...or if it says 2002, then you'll have the V1 misframed discs as well. I know this cause I just checked....sigh, I have the wrong one. I expected as much cause I bought these immediately when they came out, I didn't know about this issue.

I'm now thinking of buying the second V2 set.

BTW, thanks for the detailed response Marc...that really helped.

You can't read my labels either, the resolution is too low. Seeing the DVDs (or better yet, CDs) is fun enough...and perhaps we can guess some from the colour of their spines.

Marian - bring 'em on! :)

Okay, I see what you meant now. Sorry about that; I read it the wrong way. I thought you were just being humble. (That's why I was surprised when I saw all of the pictures.) I didn't mean anything against your collection. (You have a whole lot more than I do!) I just thought that's what you were implying in your post. No offense was intended at all. :P

I'm in the process of re-doing my cd collection rack and adding shelving on the wall so I can keep them all in one place. But, until then...here's the pictures...

The pictures are a little out of order, but that's how the pictures were uploaded. Sorry.

My DVDs (had to photoshop them to try to remove glare from the flash; didn't really fix it, but it is better)

My CDs (sorted by genre then alpha. order; the CDs at the base don't neatly fit into the rack)

The above picture, but annotated; the sections are marked, and CDs with at least substantial part of John Williams music are highlighted in green
