SteveMc 992 Report post Posted January 30 5 minutes ago, Stefancos said: They had like 2 hits in the 80's. What are you taking about? Frankly, the hits (with the exception of Eternal Flame) do not represent their best work. Take their 1984 album All Over The Place for instance. Strong stuff on there. Everything is a strong album. too, imo. And you guys know my feelings on Michael Steele's bass work. 1 Ii2 reacted to this
Stefancos 8204 Report post Posted January 30 I don't, to be honest.
SteveMc 992 Report post Posted January 30 She had a unique touch and tone. She really honed her craft, and played the bass a bit differently from most players (preferring playing on different frets). Its buried under the typical 80s production more often than not, but when you listen close you hear some interesting harmonic creativity, and a strong sense of functional melody. Her lines are self contained, yet support their songs very well. 1 Ii2 reacted to this

SteveMc 992 Report post Posted February 10 Welcome Home by Til Tuesday. This album suffers a bit from questionable production, but Aimee Mann's songwriting is on point. A couple of tracks have really effective choruses. "Coming Up Close" does not suffer from any weaknesses, though. This song here is not only an album highlight, but an 80s highlight. Leagues better than Voices Carry. Needs wider recognition. Full Moon Fever by Tom Petty Killer album overall. You really can't go wrong with "Free Fallin'"," Runnin' Down a Dream" and "I Won't Back Down". True classics. The only real weakness is that side two lacks anything of this caliber, though still bristling with some fine songwriting. Including "Waiting For Tonight," (which featured The Bangles) would have really taken things to that next level, and Petty apparently regretted not doing so. Amazing that this made people think The Beatles were secretly back together. Actually, I've been listening to this recently. People believe what they want to believe I guess. If the Beatles really did get back together they would do something rather more original than this. Not too bad nevertheless. More a Canadian Supertramp than a Canadian Beatles.
