Isolated music scores on Fox Blu-rays

The isolated scores on all films are only available on the theatrical cuts.

Aw, crap. Now we'll never get the cue heard when Clemens discovers Ripley on the beach and carries her inside. :)

It's tracked. The extended cut doesn't include any 'new' music.

I'll just wait for a good friend of mine, who doesn't post here, to buy the Alien3 blu-ray and I'll make a copy of the isolated score for myself.

I got this set now! Anyone else have it? Btw, I see no index for the isolated score. It pops up which track is on the screen as it is heard but I can't skip to the next or find a list anywhere of the music (besides what I see right here on these boards). How does one access it, or maybe they dropped it?

When you're on the main menu, go to extras, select the isolated score. The on/off option will appear above. Don't select either and press the "right" button on your remote. This will take you to the index. You can select tracks to play, play all or there is a shuffle mode. Also, you can select bonus tracks from here :ola:

Also, just to clarify, selecting tracks from the index doesn't just play the audio. It takes you to that scene in the film with the exception of the bonus tracks. They play over a still image.

Yup, the varese disc is completely complete, as is the blu ray iso score. Neither has anything the other doesn't, except that the blu ray has slightly less when they had to edit the score to fit the film. And the blu ray has the combat drop replacement by that other composer

Not really, if you are interested in seeing how it works within the context of the film or how Horner originally intended the music to work, then it's worth having.

I haven't heard it yet, but the sound quality might be better too

And of course, watching it synced to the film is the real beauty of it. Ever since I got The Deluxe Edition, I've wanted to see Combat Drop and Facehuggers synced to film. can't wait!

A user from another forum had this to say about the final theatrical isolated score of Aliens:

...it's literally that the Varese CD itself re-edited to resemble the theatrical score, but it isn't the actual theatrical score, it's not the original music track from the film's sound mix. If you've listened to the film's sound mix closely enough to be familiar with it, you'll see that some of the details are wrong - the wrong stingers used, and the way the music flows and blends together isn't accurate to the film either, and the Varese Deluxe edition of "Ripley's Rescue" is different from the original release in that for some reason they thought it was smart to overlay both the orchestral and percussion-only versions of the cue together and blend them. All that did was muddy-up the details in the snare drum patterns. The original CD release doesn't have this issue, and the film's sound mix didn't either.

In short, they must not have had that original sound mix to use so they had to use the deluxe CD and make an approximation. They used the film's mix (or maybe even tweaked the album version in a sound editing program) the opening of 'Ripley Prepares', which is known on both albums as 'Going After Newt'. The film version has a slower opening, compared to the fast-tempo album version.

Perhaps this is why the film itself never had a newer remix either, because not only is the original music mix gone, but so is the original sound mix as well to rebuild or enhance it. You'll notice in the film that the climax of 'Ripley's Rescue' folds down into mono when the APC runs over the alien's head just before crashing through the bay doors and takes off outside.

If what he says about the snare drum patterns in "Ripley's Rescue" is true, then I need to get ahold of a FLAC rip of the original 1990 CD.

I dunno, I never noticed any difference in the cue when comparing the Deluxe and regular release.

That doesn't interest me. Anyone want to, ahem, let me borrow their Alien 3 score?

Public requests are a no no. :spiny:

Apparently, "Hypersleep (Alternate Ending)" on the Deluxe Edition CD of Aliens isn't carried over to the isolated score(s).

Can anyone familiar w/ the score double-check to see if I'm right or wrong? Also, the CD track is comprised of the alternate cue, PLUS a high-pitched stinger hidden as an Easter egg. Imagine my surprise when I hear it after the relatively quiet alternate cue w/o lowering the volume

Bump: the UK Blu-ray of Chariots Of Fire, distributed by Fox, contains an isolated score.

Would anyone be interested in starting a list of all Fox BDs with this feature?

I kept my Alien Legacy boxset from 1999 however because it contains some audio tracks and a Cameron interview missing from the Anthology.

And although the Legacy and Anthology sets have an old Alien 3 featurette from 1992, there was a Making of doco that aired on TV that has never had a digital home video release. Maybe Fox made separate Making of docos for international markets?

It's possible. This making-of featurette for Die Hard with a Vengeance apparently wasn't even released in the U.S. market, and it's filled with alternate takes, deleted shots, production audio, etc.

Getting back to the point of this thread, it seems like Fox properties are being released with isolated scores less frequently these days. They're either licensed to Twilight Time, or produced as complete scores on CD
