I found 1 and 3 to be the funnier seasons, and 2 to be the one that took itself too seriously

Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons are my favorite characters from all 3 seasons!  Dunst especially was fascinating in how she presented as such a normal person with her slight insanity poking out in such banal ways.

And of course Bokeem Woodbine was wildly entertaining.  I loved the trucking crime syndicate family.  Great, great stuff that season.

Dunst and Woodbine were absolutely FANTASTIC!

Don't get me wrong - I love all three seasons, and think its one of the best shows on TV.  I simply think 1 and 3 are a little better than 2.  That's all.

Right. Sorry, bad last minute edit.

You should check out The Leftovers Jay.

That's the beauty of his character. He really pushed the show's themes of expectations, faith and reality. Loved him and his cameo in season 2.

And I wasn't a huge fan of Liv Tyler in the second season, but thought she had a marvellous sensitivity in the first season.

Yeah the actor that played him really sold the character arc. He was just another one broken by the Departure that found an other worldly way to cope with his trauma. His bit in the hotel was funny. I really enjoyed the dark humor that is sort of weaved through the show. It doesn't get in the way of the drama, so the tone always feels appropriate.

RE: Tyler

She was really fucking scary in Season 2. Her voice kinda betrays the character to me. I don't know, something about it rubs me the wrong way. But when she's not speaking she's down right menacing and terrifying. Her first encounter with Tommy being a cool WTF moment.

Many (including myself) disagree.  I much prefer the characters and humor of season 2, even if I think the overall plot is weaker.

Indeed.

Season 2 often places as my favourite. It's between S2 and S1.

S3, while quite good, seemed like the "weakest" of the bunch.

Yes! Narcos S3 arrives on Netflix on September 1st. Hopefully it will make up for The Leftovers S3, which I did not like at all.

Pity!

I tried to watch the feature length pilot for HBO's new series The Deuce.  I made it 40 mins in before I couldn't take it anymore.  If you can't make any of your characters seem even a little compelling in the first 40 mins, I bail.

You turned off David 'The Wire' Simon's The Deuce with James Franco and that is supposedly about the porn industry?!!!!

Hmm, I'm not sure if that is a smart decision, Disco. I mean, I remember it took me a while before I got hooked to The Wire but when it happened, boy, did it happen! But I guess you turned that off as well, right?!

I walked in on Marvel's The Defenders. I don't watch Marvel funny book films or TV shows. In my brain, I just imagine it as being The Avengers and Captain America type of thing. So, nothing I'd ever want to watch. This is weird though. Plenty of it is boring and pointless, but there's a story arc where Sigourney Weaver (!) puts a chick in a coffin, drowns her in blood or something which brings her back to life, feeds her cereal and then trains her to murder people. If the entire show was that, I'd probably watch. They seem to be aware it's the best stuff and only rarely cut to it, though.

I was planning on making Fargo my next series, but the girlfriend wanted to start watching Game Of Thrones, so I can no longer say that I've never seen an episode of it.

The first season is fantastic. But temper your expectations after it.

GOT S7E2. I really didn't like Dany in this one. Is she seriously going to start distrusting Varys now? Very glad she's going to meet Jon, though, and I hope Elaria will survive. Can't say I'd mind if Yara or Theon died. Sam is great.

Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl

Pretty good characters, but the pacing of the story was pretty wack at times. It would spend 6 or 7 episodes covering 2 or 3 matches at a Judo tournament, then it would take 3 episodes setting up the next tournament. The biggest problem with the show is how unfinished it was. Yawara never got her match with Jody, they really only began to finish the love story between her and Matsuda, and we never even get to see her at the Barcelona Olympics despite that being the primary goal of the series. I really enjoyed watching through the show, but I just felt empty by the time it was over. Started on Maison Ikkoku now, hopefully this show wraps everything up better than Yawara

It's mostly a post-ironic expression of my feelings towards anime and those who watch it. I really liked the character (plus I hadn't finished the show), so I made he my avatar, while also poking fun at people who have anime profile pictures. It was funnier on my facebook where it riled up quite a few of my friends.

Anybody else watch the 4th season of Bojack?

Watched the first three eps in one sitting and I'm really enjoying it. I adored the episode with the dragonfly, so far it's shaping up to be a great season-

Watching Bojack season 4. I'm on episode eight right now, and it's great. I really liked the underground episode, and I'm also really digging the Mr. Peanutbutter running for office subplot too.

Mr. Peanutbutter is my favorite character and the more the show has let him become a main character the better it's gotten

He's the anti Bojack in terms of characterization (he's actually friendly & not supposedly miserable), but the more we've been around him, the more we've seen his personality challenged. I really appreciate it.

It is, but it's very adult. The main character is a washed-up "horse actor", and the series deals with some really heavy themes, like Stu already alluded to. I don't really recommend it to kids basically.
