It's a Trap

Finally got it from Netflix. It was worth watching - not quite as funny as the first two, but still really good. I laughed out loud multiple times, which is a good sign since I was by myself. I usually find it creepy to laugh out loud when I'm by myself, so I have to be genuinely amused to cross that line.

I kind of want to watch it with the commentary on before I send it back in.

This isn't a film, but I just finished watching Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles on Netflix. I knew of this show when it was airing, but for some reason, I didn't watch it. I enjoyed the first season more than the second, overall, so I wasn't expecting to be particularly perturbed by the finality of the season 2 finale. But you know what? I'm genuinely disappointed that a third season never happened. There was a lot of potential for taking the show in a fresh, positive direction, and I feel kind of cheated knowing that I'll never see that come to fruition.

I must say, though, that one scene with John and Cameron made me feel a lot more awkward than I expected. If she hadn't been a machine, it would have been a WHOLE 'nother story, but as it was...I felt uncomfortable. (But it also would have made me all the more interested in a relationship developing between John and the non-robotic Allison in the future...sigh...)

I never bothered with the The Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. All though I read that supposedly that the show was supposed to take place in an alternate type of timeline.

It does change some things, yep. I haven't seen Salvation, but I know it's definitely a different timeline from the one where T3 happens. It's not a bad thing, though. I wouldn't mind if Summer Glau altered my timeline.

Anyway, I'm glad I gave the series a shot. Better late than never. Season 1 is better than season 2, but I think season 3 could have been a nice return to form, and it's a pity we'll never find out.

It starts to feel more like a natural offshoot of the films, rather than just a cheap attempt at duplicating the one-liners and setpieces. Still far from the best show I've ever seen - especially when Sarah started getting obsessed with the meaning of her dreams - but "pure trash" doesn't really encapsulate the way the show as a whole felt.

And the pilot was, let us recall, a pilot. That means the budget isn't always sky-high. Not every show can afford to buy and wreck a whole commercial airliner on a Hawaiian beach before they've even gotten the green light.

Yeah, I watched Sons of Anarchy, which was entertaining enough...but after greatness, passable entertainment just doesn't cut it. I do hope there'll be great genre series in this current wave. I hope it's Song of Ice and Fire, but I'm not terribly optimistic.

Saw How to Train Your Dragon. Simply wonderful. Dreamworks continuing the trend of Kung Fu Panda, as opposed to Monsters vs. Aliens. Powell's score is fantastic, too.

Generally, the purpose of a pilot is to sell a show to the network, rather than the viewers. Many pilots never air because the network doesn't pick them up or asks them to be reworked. For example, the first episode aired of Star Trek was 'The Man Trap', but it actually had two pilots - 'The Cage' with Jeff Hunter as Pike, and the reworked 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' with Shatner's Kirk.

It would make sense for an opening episode of a show based on a previous property to link to its predecessor, before branching out on its own in further episodes, for example the appearance of Captain Picard in Deep Space Nine's opener. Also, it's not as if the Terminator movies have not done this in every film in the series.

Yes yes yes! You two are in for a fun ride. Truly a quality production from start to...well, I can't say "finish", since the show's not over yet, but even the worst episodes of Dexter are still better than a lot of what's on TV.

Actually, she's already seen every episode (and the first season twice, I believe, so this is her third time through the first season). She said the first and 5th seasons are the best... all I know is I'm already hooked. She keeps cracking up, cause every new character that gets introduced I'm like "He's the ice truck killaa!!!"

In addition to Dexter, we started watching Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Holy hot show!

Just saw that first episode of Survivor...holy cow. Their casting people are so good at finding contestants who are sure to stir up some drama. That was some tribal council. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how the whole Redemption Island twist works out.

I've also been watching Monk on Netflix, since I knew of it but didn't really watch it while it aired. It's a nice, light-hearted foil to The X-Files, which I've been casually watching as well.

This past fall/winter season of Survivor had the most consistently contentious tribal councils in the show's history. It was like they were poking everyone with cattle prods on the way in.

I haven't watched the new one yet, but I will and looking forward to it (I've made it a habit of watching the new eps on CBS.com the weekend or so after they air). I'm a big fan of Russell. Despite the fact he makes some stupid moves sometimes I would have voted him to win both his previous games.

It's interesting that the writers are pretty open about their dislike for the Jedi. The battle sequences are filled with graphic blood and decapitation shots that feel like desperate attempts to elevate the actual film's lame, sanitized violence. However, as a spoof, it fails on every conceivable level.

Actually I think Family Guy tries to premiere in September and run till May. Fox has a crazy way of doing their schedules.

The problem these days is that all the networks shuffle their schedules too much. They have too many shows, a quick trigger finger for shows that don't perform well right away and they shuffle too much.

&@*#%* My Father Says is already finished with it's season, so they move Rules Of Engagement from Monday to Thursday so they can air a new show, which feels like a How I Met Your Mother rip off in some ways.

I will admit to laughing too much so it was hard to concentrate 100%.

I know the composers, especially Ron Jones, have used actual cues in the past but have also composed their own that sound similar but are not exact, much like the Williams porn best score moment with the cue sounding similar to the Desert Chase from Raiders.

However I will say it was very Williamsesque at times. Possibly Indiana Jones and ROTS served as inspiration with some Shore / Morricone at the end.

The music really adds to the humor in this case.

Sorry but you're wrong. The "normal" tv season runs for about 44 weeks, from September to May, but most shows air 22 new episodes during that time, and reruns on weeks they are not new.

There are obvious exceptions for shows like 24 or Lost, who waited until January/Feb to start then ran every week with no reruns until they were over, etc. But Family Guy follows the same "basic" schedule as all the other network shows.

You are right that they produce less new episodes a year than the "standard" 22, and that their episodes take forever to finish and Fox doesn't know what they're getting until its delivered, etc. But on its basic level, its the same as any other show.
