@Jurassic Shark I just listened to Tchaikovsky's violin concertos!

And @Demodex, to answer your question I only listen to film scores and classical music.

Is this thread just for soundtracks or is that all you listen to?

It's for any music you have bought.

Let's see, now:

15 CDs, including:

a 2-CD Elton John "best of",

a Maria Muldar CD (the one with MIDNIGHT AT THE OASIS),

a 1993 CD from The Waterboys (not the one with WHOLE OF THE MOON),

a Labbi Sifre CD (the one with SOMETHING INSIDE SO STRONG),

a 4-CD set of Gregorian chants (gorgeous),

TUBULAR BELLS,

BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER,

a couple Brian Eno CDs,

and two others that I can't remember, at this time.

Yep, £3 doesn't go far, up here :)

Any good?

The same question from me.  I have no recollection of this score in or outside the film.

I don't.  Aliens is one of my favorite scores of all time.

My first encounter with Horner's music on album (without knowing anything about him) was on some s-f compilation which had some suites from The Wrath of Khan (main title) and The Search for Spock (disco version). I think that must have been one of those dodgy things where you have synthesised orchestra for the most part. But I realised only years later who wrote it. Before that, I must have heard his music in Braveheart but can't remember that making any sort of impression on me at the time. My first actually album I got from my mum for Christmas and that was Apollo 13. I really liked it but hated it was interrupted by songs and dialogue. The next one was Titanic a couple of years later. I sort of liked and disliked this one. Liked the muscular action music but hated the synths and Celtic stuff. Then The Mask of Zorro arrived and I absolutely adored this one (even to this day it's one of my favorites). I think my next one after that was Willow and I remember being really annoyed that certain 4-note motif from Zorro crept up. The one I bought very soon after that was The Perfect Storm which I liked (even though Filmtracks review told me not to). Then Bicentennial Man... And then many, many followed...

Its the other way around! You got it wrong?

Its extremely annoying in Zoro.

...and they all had the 4-note motif! ARGH!

Yes! I think I have reached my breaking point with Enemy at the Gates which I think really overdid it in a couple of places. Oddly, even more extensive use in Troy doesn't bother me at all.

I have made my peace with Horner and his crimes since then. It's not like you have any other choice. ;)

Its hardly original!

And hardly complex! The short writing period is very noticeable. One half is taken from the original Alien, the other half is stereotypical military music, thus I don't know which substantial merits remain to the score. But maybe I'm being too subjective.
