RIP David Brown

Recommended Posts

Nor I. He may not have been directly involved, but he helped found Zanuck-Brown Productions. If they were responsible for both films, it was through people named neither Zanuck nor Brown.

I remember hearing him talk about The Sting too during the making-of doc from the dvd release...

EDIT-

Did a little investigating. According to the book "The Jaws Log," by Carl Gottlieb:

"It's my considered opinion that Richard Zanuck knows as much about the business of making movies as anyone alive today, and more than most any other executive currently heading a major studio or distributorship. He and David are responsible for a long string of popular and entertaining films that include Fox hits like "Sound of Music," "French Connection," "Patton," and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," and when they moved to Universal, they gave that studio its first Best Picture Oscar in 45 years, with "The Sting" on which they served as Executive Producers."
