Trent B 337
I agree the price is definitely ridiculous. I could see it being maybe $150 at most but $500? No way. This is definitely something for the die-hard Elfman fans.
Charlie Brigden 7
Unbelievable. Some great stuff (love the Big Fish expansion) but what justification do they have for charging $500?
Trent B 337
What justification do they have for charging $500?I wonder that myself. There's been box sets like this released by our beloved labels and they don't charge this damn much. For example, take the recent FSM Ron Jones Star Trek set and see how much that cost. That also has 14 discs...this set has, how many discs?
ManofDestiny 71
10 unreleased tracks of Edward. I hope Lalaland would issue an expanded score of it later, in chronological order. But just look at those demo and unreleased material......$500... hope they can sell at least 100 set. fommes 153
What the hell? I have never wanted a CD box more than this one, but 500 dollars?? That is rather insane. I so want all the CDs though; I just can't afford this - ever. Look at all the Nightmare before Christmas tracks! Excuse me while I go sobbing.Oh, you guys need to click on 'pre-order'. Does anyone have the coupon code?

TownerFan 4,983
what justification do they have for charging $500?I guess plethora of movie studios, music rights parties and record labels involved. I'm sure this has been a legal nightmare to get through. I'm still amazed Richard Kraft and WB succeeded in producing it.There's no way I can afford this, but it truly looks as a labor of love. It's the Elfmaniac's wet dream!
fommes 153
So THIS is why all the producers were talking about fans needing to save money etc.
TownerFan 4,983
I think Lukas Kendall was right when he noted that the soundtrack collectors market is becoming very similar to what the comic-book collectors market was during the '90s. We'll see if speculation and over-saturation will cause a similar collapse, sooner or later.
scallenger 483
This is exciting! Finally get to have a decent presentation of Pee Wee and the orchestral underscore for Nightmare, among many many many others!!! But at that price... wow. I hope we all find a way to hear this music. Maybe they'll make a coupon day... or... something...
Demondm810 399
Holy shit. I have to have this. Time to tighten the belt! The film version of the opening to Alice!!! The futterwacken!! omg the NIghtmare Before Christmas stuff. This is an absolute dream.Lol Maybe I'll sell the USB to recoup some of the cost. I do wish they had a disc version only, minus the swag. Andy 4,127
Sigh. I would've considered it at half the price, but..I am getting reaaly tired of "Labor of Love" prices on box sets.
crocodile 8,012
Yeah, especially when you get 16 CD's for the price of 30.Karol
Richard Penna 3,688
Unreleased Sleepy Hollow music! It's the only Elfman score I want more music from, and it looks like they got it bang on (although I'm not certain whether the Masbath examination/funeral is there). fommes 153
Another thing - not that it's in any way relevant anymore: with that price - they could at least have considered free shipping worldwide. If I'd order this from Europe, including taxes it might even amount to 650 dollars. This is actually a wild guess but I don't think I'm that far off. Richard Penna 3,688
I have zero plans to buy it. Clearly aimed at the Elfman enthusiast. I'll be 'acquiring' the few cues I want.
Wojo 2,453
There's no way I'd want to have to make room for that monstrosity of a box on my shelf. All I want is the score to Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, but my 10+ year old footwarmer will last me. I've got to save up for a laptop.I appreciate that the studios are opening up the vaults to make "labor of love" projects, because if this sells, it spells hope that someday other projects may get similar treatments. You paying attention, George?
Jay 37,363
Wow, what were they thinking? Two things about this are so wrong: First the $499 price tag, and second the 1,000 unit limited run? The only thing I can think of is that they are only advertising so far the Limited Edition version, and there will be a unlimited version without, say, the book and dvd and elaborate packaging available as well for maybe $150? That would be a reasonable price, in fact I'd probably pay $200 for it honestly. But who in the world can spend $500 on this? And even if I started putting aside money for it, by the time I had $500 saved up the 1,000 copies will probably be long gone. Very odd decisions all around. Here's the track lists. Richard Penna 3,688
It's a seriously impressive set. Could they be the first collaboration with all music from all films entirely released? Jay 37,363
Did anyone notice the errors in the video? "CD's" instead of "CDs", "MP3's" instead of "MP3s", and they gave the URL as www.elfmanburton.com when its really www.burtonelfman.com. Weird! And yea, that box is just wayyyyyyyyy too big. TownerFan 4,983
This thing popped out, at least for me:In the case of Batman, a better-sounding source of the music was located and re-edited to re-create a superior version of this legendary soundtrack album.So... was LaLaLand prevented from using this newly-found, better-sounding source for their Expanded Archival Edition? Or did they use the same source?

It seriously looks like they took every single suggestion posted there! This thing popped out, at least for me:In the case of Batman, a better-sounding source of the music was located and re-edited to re-create a superior version of this legendary soundtrack album.So... was LaLaLand prevented from using this newly-found, better-sounding source for their Expanded Archival Edition? That is probably the "newly found" source the press release mentions.I'm just confused what the story is behind "Attack Of The Batwing (extended version)*" and "Joker’s Commercial (film version)*". Seems odd.All the worktape stuff was probably something in Elfman's personal collection that LLL didn't have access to
TownerFan 4,983
MV posted on the FSM boards that their master was sent to Kraft for use in the box set. I just don't know where the extended version of Attack Of The Batwing came from - all the worktape stuff was probably something in Elfman's personal collection that LLL didn't have access to.Thanks Jay! scallenger 483
For me, personally, something very exciting to have from that box set will be orchestral non-vocal versions of what looks like all the songs from Nightmare Before Christmas, so one could make an arrangement of the entire score with no dialogue whatsoever! To me that's incredible! I love the lyrics and the performance of them in the songs, but to be able to listen to them without them will probably make me listen to the score as a whole much more when it's not during the holidays! When I try to otherwise it just doesn't feel right, and must admit, it's kind of silly hearing those lyrics when you're not in a festive mood. However, I LOVE the music underneath them. I never dreamed this would actually happen! I hope everyone is right in saying that there will be a second, much cheaper, run. I simply need to have that music, and a lot of others in that set! Red 75
$500 is too much for me. It would be cheaper to get the scores I do want separately.
Koray Savas 2,251
Fuck this is a tough choice. I don't know if I can do it. I have enough to get it, and I want it, but October is already a very expensive month for me. I think I already have like $150 worth of stuff pre-ordered. Andy 4,127
I find it strange that they would solicit so much fan input on the creation of the program, yet turn around and price it so far out of reach for 99% of the folks who responded. I really hope these are available separately.Next they'll tell us the USB gimmick and Zoetrope only added $10 of additional cost.
Koray Savas 2,251
Considering that it said "Limited First-Run" in the video, there will be a subsequent release without all the swag. My guess is that will be around $200. Still though, all of this is pretty awesome. Just when Spartacus was the most elaborate presentation of any film score, Klaus Badelt releases The Extra Man, and now this giant sucker.Oh sweet jesus, what have I done? Pre-ordered. Jacob 0
I've been wanting to get more into Elfman, but yikes. And yet oh so tempting...... and they gave the URL as www.elfmanburton.com when its really www.burtonelfman.com. Weird!Either one works, actually.
Koray Savas 2,251
OK I feel better, now that I realize it's being released on December 21st. Lots of time to save up. I thought it was being released at the end of the month.
Richard Penna 3,688
It's an awesome box, but I don't think I'm into Elfman enough to spend £20/disc on this. I haven't heard most of the scores on this set, and £300 is one heck of a lot to find out.The unreleased Sleepy Hollow tracks are the only ones I know I want. Koray Savas 2,251
I'm mainly doing it because of The Nightmare Before Christmas. One of my favorite films/scores. And early Elfman is always good. Also because I was surprised how many people at FSM were instantly ordering it, so I jumped in out of fear of it selling out soon. scallenger 483
I totally agree with you, Koray. All of that unreleased Nightmare Before Christmas music looks amazing to finally have! It's too bad there's no way I could afford it right now even if I tried to save.
Wojo 2,453
Well if Koray wants it for The Nightmare Before Christmas, and richuk wants it for Sleepy Hollow, it seems you guys should collaborate on the purchase. One person gets the discs, the other gets the thumb drive, and each a percentage of the bill. Win-win.
Koray Savas 2,251
That thumb drive is mine! I'm not doing it just for Nightmare Before Christmas. Beetlejuice, Big Fish, Edward Scissorhands, etc. are all fantastic.
Charlie Brigden 7
So when someone gets this, can I borrow it? And some blank tapes?
Koray Savas 2,251
I'd happily convert that thumb drive into a nice single file. I wonder if I should even import the CDs, depends on what kind of mp3s they are.
TownerFan 4,983
Also because I was surprised how many people at FSM were instantly ordering it, so I jumped in out of fear of it selling out soon.Well, this also means a good portion of soundtrack fans are people with lots of money at their disposal. Good for them.I'm not one of those.
Jay 37,363
There's no reason to pre-order the $500 version because you're afraid of it selling it. It's clear to be there will be a cheaper alternative to go along with the $500 version. There is no chance they spent months working on this only print 1,000 copies ever and that's it. And even at $500 each, that probably wouldn't recoup the costs.I'll wait and buy the cheaper version.
Koray Savas 2,251
Yes, I'm sure there will be a cheaper second run. As I said over at FSM, my fear is not knowing what they will take out. The fancy box, videotrope, the USB stick... fine, be gone with it. But some of the bonus discs with early demos and recordings? The hour-long conversation with Burton and Elfman? It's possible those may go too, and I don't want to risk that. This set doesn't come out for another 2 months, I can always cancel in that time in any news of a subsequent release is revealed. Charlie Brigden 7
With the price, I think Kraft should at least post on FSM anything about a second less expensive set.
Jay 37,363
I would guess the cheaper version will still have the same 16 discs, but just no dvd, book, usb stick, or zoetrope packaging. I'll gladly buy the cheaper version and watch the dvd on youtube
