Good score, but there's too many instrumental tracks...

...which is why RotJ is a nice change of pace. Tracks like Lapti Nek and Yub Nub add so much flavor to the score.

Return of the Jedi by John Williams

Some great material (Into the Trap, The Forest Battle, Alliance Assembly) and some oddball but still loveable stuff (Jabba the Hutt, Ewok theme). Great.

I was jokingly referring to The Others and the "Instrumental" label, silly!

Still, all good songs!

:music: The 3 Worlds of Gulliver by Bernard Herrmann. So completely unlike old grumpy Benny... and yet so much like him.

Wonderful score. Perhaps not classic Herrmann, but classical Herrmann.

The Amazing Spider-Man

It's a surprisingly bland Horner. Elfman's scores were way better. There's still some good stuff in here, most of the usual Horner trademarks. I like the tender romantic stuff, although I still give the edge to Elfman.

Elfman knew how to make it tender, too! There's some real heart-swelling stuff in his two scores.

I'm a huge sucker for sweet music in general, like Ilia's Theme and these track:

I prefer Young.

Respect the dude, but do not understand why he gets all the praise he does. Like when people trumpet his evil Spider-Man theme as this super kick-ass villain theme for the ages, I hear it and say "Wha?"

He gets the praise he does because people enjoy the score.

The evil SM theme is not my favorite theme in the score though.

:music: Nate and Hayes by Trevor Jones. I'm not really a fan of the composer but this is rather good. Very pleasant old fashioned swashbuckler. Probably the best one he's done.

Queen is more popular than Jesus!

Who agrees with me that Queen is better than the Beatles? Don't be shy!

I prefer The Bangles:P

At any rate, Queen entertains me more than The Beatles.

Freddie Mercury was a monster of a composer. Would've been interesting if he went the way of gentlemen such as Elfman, Zimmer, etc.

Yes, absolutely.  Bohemian Rhapsody alone is enough to come to this conclusion.  I think he really had a singular compositional sense.  He could have been better than those two.

I've never heard Arachnophobia but Dark Crystal was just ok.

Not the most unique thing in the world, but damn, these chord progressions are slick (I love that half step descending at "Having the time of your life"):

A lot of hubbub is made over music "for both your brain and booty" lately, with groups such as Snarky Puppy being poster groups, but this has been going on for a long time!

Makes one hope for strong melodies to return for sure. I like quite a few bands/solo artists these days, but melodically i can clearly trace back everything i like to another song from the 60's to 80's. I once sat through whole Belle & Sebastian concert and was so annoyed how they Hornered so much 60's stuff.

For whatever reason, that's my go to walking at night tune to sing to myself when I'm out and about.

When I was really struggling earlier this year, it was this:

:music: Cocoon 1.5 or *batteries not included by Jimmy Horner. I find it funny that Jerry's Enterprise theme is used as one of recurring ideas. Well, not exactly perhaps. But really close. Oh Jimmy, you naughty boy! ;)
