What is the last video game you played?

I had to "waste" 2 perks

Explorer, because there's no way you'll find all those locations and cave otherwise, even with an online guide

Weapon Handling, because I didn't put enough points into strenght

The New Vegas Medical Center allows you to genetically alter your DNA. You can add points to strength, intelligence, charisma, etc. Costs a pretty cap though.

I easily made a huge amount of money at the casinos (I had an 8 or 9 luck character). There is a cap to each casino though before you get banned permanently. Best way to max it out is to play blackjack (very dependable) until you are close to the cap, then hit the slots and hope for a stupendous payout to blow your winnings waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past the limit.

With a Luck of 8+, you'll win around 8 out of 10 hands of Blackjack. Just keep double downing until you get banned.

The problem with that strategy is, you get banned after you just barely break the win limit. I mean, with a double down, whats the max amount of chips you can earn with a max bet? 500 or so if I remember correctly? Its been a while since I've played. However, if you were to say, play blackjack until you reach say...9000 in winnings (and say, the casino has a 10,000 ban limit) and THEN hit the slots, with some luck you could be looking at winning up to 32,000 on top of the 9,000 you have and then only getting banned =D

Is there any way to un-ban yourself from a casino? Shoot the guards, kill the owner in his sleep, bribe him, marry his ugly daughter? Something?

Can you tell I've only played a half hour's worth?

This is why I like the PC.

Need more caps? No problem.

Open console. player.additem F X - Get indicated amount of caps (X = amount)

I didn't gamble yet

I get my caps the old fashioned way. I kill/loot/sell.Those legionaries attacking me drop super sledges worth 3000$. I can make 8000 caps pretty quick even my low barter skill, enough to get the weapons mods, implants and repair my gear.

Open console. player.additem F X - Get indicated amount of caps (X = amount)

That is "true cheating". I never do that. I can exploit a game weakness but no cheating of this sort

I got a MS point card . I'll get one of the expansions

"True cheating" only becomes an ethical issue when playing other people in a competitive game. Like if someone added infinite ammo to a Call of Duty game or found a way to exact a million hit points on a World of Warcraft weapon. If it's just me versus the computer, what I do and how I do it is my business.

Rest assured that I would never cheat my way through a game like Fallout and then come here and brag about "how easy it was to beat and I don't know what your guys' problem was."

Yes, but your still going around how the way the RPG was meant to be played. There's always a section where your character is kind of crappy and need to "work' for your money, armor..etc... That's the fun of it so at least when you've grinded your way to a strong character or found a special weapon in a secret room instead of just spawning it through a console command, you feel like you earned it.

And looking at an online guide to solve a puzzle or when your stuck in a quest is not the same as altering the game through console commands.

My rules for RPG's:

1)Play on Normal difficulty (Easy usually means you won't get the full experience and Hard is just bumping things up for nothing)

2)Don't cheat through console commands

3)Don't use "infinite money or XP" type of glitches

4)Look at a guide if your stuck in a quest, puzzle or strategy to beat a difficult boss after trying at least 30 minutes

5)Look at a guide if it's the type of game where you can miss sidequests if you progress through the game

I usually only use the floating cheats/walk through walls/get things early type cheats, and only after I beat the game once,

Goddamn PSN store goodness.

Bought Limbo, Old World Blues DLC for New Vegas, Minerva's Den DLC for BioShock 2. They also have Borderlands full game and DLC bundle for $15. Very very tempting. Plus some Mafia II DLCs for $5. Damn your sales!

KM, if you're going to get only one DLC for New Vegas, don't make it Dead Money.

Well I got to level 26 in New Vegas just checking out places with my Explorer perk

Action Boy2+Math Wrath +Grim Reaper Spirit = bad news for Death Claws

I killed a bunch of them at the train yard, but not yet attempted the quarry

and there was a bunch of blind ones at some other place that I killed too

Has anyone here heard of Catherine? I played the demo last week, and while it's hardcore puzzle gameplay put me off, the story really drew me in. Hopefully I can manage to beat those levels or else I fear it will be another Demon's Souls.

I'm not a huge fan either. I got past the first one no problem in the demo, but the second one proved to be difficult. I never finished it. I was really captivated by the story though. I wanted to keep playing, and that hasn't happened with a video game for a long time.

I ended up getting Borderlands while it was uber cheap. Played it for quite a few hours today. It's alright, I think "Diet Fallout" is the best way to describe it. My friend kinda ended up ruining it for me though. He joined my game and gave me some of his guns which were insanely souped up and powerful. One hit shotgun with massive range. The game has pretty much become a chore to get through, providing no challenge. I could easily sell the gun and continue as intended, but I'm not that into it. :P

The multiplayer is fantastic though. He just popped into my game, and tagged along as I experienced the single player campaign for myself. That'd be pretty fucking awesome if Fallout was like that, but I think the system would explode if they tried to implement it.

I finished Borderlands. Try doing some quests at the bulletin board

It was a different experience than Fallout for me because in Fallout I use mostly VATS and I rarely aim manually, but in Borderlands there's no VATS

I've never played Diablo, so I don't know. Take Fallout. Now strip it of its giant open world to loadable areas. Take away the amount of things you can loot. Take away VATS. Add some retarded animation. Add some vehicles and weapon mods. Now you have Borderlands.

Take Diablo. Now switch its setting to an a post apocalypse setting. Make it an FPS. Add vehicles. Now you have Borderlands. Far less steps ;)

But there was a game like Diablo in a post-apocalyptic setting. It was called Fallout.

Then came Fallout 2.

These first person shooters, while fun, are just over-the-top imitators.

Fallout was a more traditional RPG, Diablo was a simplistic clickfest light RPG where the main motivation was killing monsters, levelling up and chancing upon awesome loot (read: kickass rare weapons)....just like Borderlands

Yea. That's the distinction between a story-based RPG like Fallout, which had much in common with D&D, pen and paper, and Wasteland...and an action RPG like Diablo and its sequels. Oh, Diablo had a story -- Doom had a story -- but you didn't need to pay attention to play the game. Ignore the story in any Fallout game, and you're just shooting stuff.

On any given day, I can be in the mood to play either type.

I just bought Magicka, based on the reviews that compare it to Diablo but with humor and the ability to stack spells.

Not at all. The main stories in Fallout are only a small part of the great things you can do on your own. Not to mention it has it's own share of rare weapons. Well, the only thing that makes them unique is that they have a distinct name :P Such as my automatic 45 pistol named A Light In The Darkness.

It's all about the locations. Exploring the vault in Fallout 3 with all the Garys was hilariously amazing.

its still rough around the edges (as can be expected from a prealpha code), but i think its already showing massive potential. hopefully they implement a mouse heavy interface in the future though, as moving around with WASD (often holding down shift to run or z for sneak) can be pain, and the UI is a bit reminiscent of 90s traditional RPGs with a lot of clicks that could be done without.

Catherine

A breath of fresh air in the gaming world. It's also not as hard as I was expecting, but I've still got a ways to go yet. We'll see. There are some annoying ticks, such as a loud ringing bell during resting stages between climbing challenges, but overall it's a great experience.

The morality decisions aren't always clear cut either, which is awesome. I answered a question thinking it was the "right" response, and it ended up lowering my scale. Replaying the story should bring lots of fun changes.

I originally planned to buy it for my friend's birthday, but he said no. He liked it as he watched me play for a bit today, so I ordered the Deluxe Edition for myself and will be giving him this copy.
