Anyone remember the Command & Conquer Red Alert series?

That was quite fun to play multi-player on.

I've got the Command and Conquer pack which is the first 10 years of C&C on CD rom. It's been AGES since I've played any of them but I remember playing C&C Red Alert with a friend a few times online.

Personally I've never been able to beat the actual game for Red Alert. I got to a certain point (even on easy) and the enemies kept coming at you so much it was nearly impossible to play.

I've beaten Tiberian Sun (the first one and both sides) and even that was a pain in the ass, especially when beating it as the bad guys.

Now my favorite C&C game has been Renegade. That's the only first person shooter game for C&C that they made and I wished they had made more. "I got a present for ya!"

Finished Two Worlds 2. Only 45 hours doing all the possible quests. A huge part of the map in not explorable in the single player game

Now it's either Fallout New Vegas or Dragon Age 2

Fallout please.

I've just passed 20 hours with Mass Effect 2. I'm starting to warm up to it. Places like Omega, the Citadel, and Illian are the highlight planets. There you can actually interact with others and there's a good bit of comedy which is what I look for in my RPGs. The story is insanely short I've discovered, I believe I'm already at the end but opted out to continue training my team so I can actually do all the side stuff.

I also like the spam e-mails. The male enhancement and "Nigerian prince" ones made me laugh out loud.

Oh, and I ordered Crysis 2, gonna give it a go.

You have to do all the side missions. All characters you recruit ask you do do an extra mission to become loyal and unlock an extra skill plus a ship upgrade. Also you have scan all the planets to find hidden smaller missions (no need to mine all of them). And upgrading all your skills takes a while and some mining to do

If you do everything the game lasts about 40 hours

You can also do the side missions after the game ends. If your at the point in the main story where you have to jump into the red mass effect relay to the collector ship, delaying to do other stuff will have bad consequences

Wait what do you mean? The game knows if I'm stalling? The last mission I did was to search the Collector ship that destroyed the first Normandy. You escape and then have the crew meeting in the comm room. Then there was a dialogue option that said "Let's do this," or "I want to build my team." Since I have only gained the loyalty of Miranda, Garrus, and Kasumi so far, I opted for the latter to do the rest of the crew. I still haven't recruited the last three people either.

The game won't progress until you recruit everyone (I think Grunt, Legion, Zaaed and Kasumi are the optional ones). So don't worry. It'll be obvious when you get to the point at which you have to go ahead with the mission or suffer consequences.

ok, Koray is not as far as I thought. But there's missions to gain the loyality of all crew members. I THINK if you recruit everyone before doing those mission the game will still go to the last part. I had to gain the loyalty of Legion post-ending

Who the hell are Kasumi and Zaeed?... are they DLC contents?

Edit: oops, there was a card in my game to get free DLC including Zaeed...I didn't see it .Kind of like the golem for Dragon Age Origins

I got Dragon Age 2 for the PS3...

But now I started Phantasy Star Universe. Supposed to be an online game but there's a 20 hour single player adventure which so far is typical JRPG. Plus there was a free download for a second adventure that seems as big as the main game

Unfortunately the graphics are PS2 quality

I started playing Spiderman Shattered Dimensions. Its ok. It does try to be original with the different Spidermans but the camera and controls are frustrating at times.

Crysis 2

Eh, it's alright. I applaud them for creating an "open world" FPS, but it's actually not as great as it sounds. You could probably play the entire game and only kill 10 people. It's too easy to just slip by. I found myself looking for enemies just so I could shoot something, even if it meant straying away from my objective.

Also, the biggest problem and a serious game killer is: THE DAMN FUCKING VOICEOVER GUY! I don't know if it's your character or just some omniscient tip narrator, but I want him to SHUT THE FUCK UP. Every single thing you do, he repeats it audibly in his Batman voice, which sounds 10x harsher. I hit R2 to engage my cloak, "Cloak on." I turn it off and let it recharge for 2 seconds, and then "Cloak on." "Armor on." "Thermal vision on." SHUT UP! I know it's fucking on, because I pressed the fucking button. Seriously, how does shit like this happen in video games today? It's every single time, and it layers on top of other in-game dialogue. It bothered me so much I just turned it off and put in Mass Effect 2.

Multiplayer is pretty fun, despite being a carbon copy of COD. Same unlocks, same challenges, same perks, etc. The only difference is that everyone has a nanosuit, which can either piss you off or be your savior. Same features as the in-game suit. So I can pretty much turn on Juggernaut the second I see you coming and take twice as much damage as I blow you away. I can turn on thermal and spot you a mile away and snipe you. Stuff like that. I enjoy it because of the cloak. It actually works and is very hard to spot someone unless they're directly in front of you. I found myself having the most fun just sneaking around in it, stealth killing campers and such. Despite adding a more dynamic gameplay strategy, it's unbelievably cheap.

Overall, the controls are a little stiff. You're not super precise as in COD, but not as rugged as in Killzone. I personally feel the sensitivity is weird and it'll take some getting used to. I'll probably mess around with the settings to make it easier to scan my environment.

There may be mild-spoilers below, but I don't think it's detailed enough to warrant tags.

Wow this game screwed me over

I got Legion and was told to do stuff while that IFF thing uploaded. I did an assignment that I hadn't done, and was about to gain Legion's loyalty when it just forced me into the Collector attack on the Normandy. Now I'm left with choosing to go save the crew immediately, or continue doing other stuff. I read that if you delay, half or all of your crew will be killed depending on how many side missions you do. If I go in and save the crew immediately, is there a resting period before the final mission or is that it? My main concern is not having Legion's loyalty. If a crew member is not loyal, is it a guarantee that they will die in the suicide mission, or is it by chance? I want that gold trophy for keeping them all alive, and I'll be pissed if Zaeed is killed because I never got his loyalty and he was like the first one I recruited.

EDIT

Decided to just go in. Lost Legion, but everyone else survived. I'll just load up my save before the Omega 4 Relay, gain his loyalty and then redo it, I can spare Kelly's life lol.

yes, I had to gain the loyalty of Legion post-game ending because of that. But if you have him killed in the final mission then you'll miss his loyalty mission .The crew members who die are always the ones you send to hack the terminals in the first part and escort the crew back to the ship (me :useless Tali and the tatoo chick who was pissed at me anyways because I took Miranda's side)

If you delay going to the collector ship (do ANY missions) , all your crew dies including your fish in the fishtank since Kelly Chambers is not there to feed them anymore

I really wanted Kelly not to die, that's why I did the ending part twice

On the Mass Effect Wiki page, it said if you do 1-3 missions before the Relay, half the crew dies along with Kelly, if you do 4 or more, everyone dies except for the Doctor chick who likes brandy.

I never bought any pets or ship models or anything like that. All my creds went to upgrades. I think I have them all except for the last Medi-Gel one as well as the ones that increase your hack time. Never had trouble hacking.

I got it on with Miranda. I'll redo the last mission twice, so I can take advantage of both options at the end of the credits. I'll set up my next playthrough to be a renegade and I'll probably pursue Jack. Then I'll have another save so I can do the recently released Arrival add-on as well as finish exploring the galaxies.

yeah, my first ending was with the Doctor only survining

so far I've never played add ons for a game unless they came with it like Fallout 3 GOTI

Wow you're really missing out. I recall you saying that you don't like to return to older games though. Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 came with all of the DLC in one nice bundle. "Arrival" was just released last Tuesday, and it's only $6. It supposedly sets everything up for Mass Effect 3.

I just replayed the end and fixed all my mistakes. Got Legion's loyalty and had everyone survive, including the crew. Now I'll clean up anything I missed side-mission wise and then I'll put all my focus on Crysis 2.

Apparently EA is deliberately trying to take down the franchise and will be releasing Battlefield 3 on the same day as the next COD. From the videos I've seen so far, it could succeed. But then again, the MOH videos looked fantastic, and that one turned out to be the same thing more or less.

All I'll say on the matter is the day Halo introduces gimmicks such as forty unlockable guns which all do the same thing, attachments, perks and killstreaks, is the day I stop playing it.

The tradition and legacy of the pure competitive shooter (Counterstrike, Halo et al) must be protected if standards are to remain high. Call of Duty has come to symbolise the dumbing down and casualization of the competetive online fps.

There's not so many new releases I want this year so I'll postpone doing Dragon Age and Fallout 3 New Vegas a bit

Right now I playing The Last Remnant, another Final Fantasy-like JRPG by Square -Enix. The battle system is a bit confusing (had to read the manual twice) and I had put it aside 1 year ago but decided to take a go at it now.

It's the last JRPG title (for xbox360 or PS3) I didn't do I think.

GameStop had Diablo II on sale last week, so I picked the Battle Chest up for $20. It's nice to finally own it, especially since it's a solid multiplayer game that my laptop can handle.

I kinda overwhelmed myself with too many games that I just don't feel like playing. I'll sit there looking at them trying to decide, and then I'll just go do something else

Last night, though, I decided to continue my second play through of BioShock 2 that I started at the beginning of the year.

I've also got Crysis 2 to beat, and a whole bunch of other stuff I want to get trophies for. Portal 2 comes out next week, so now I'll something else on top of the pile.

Am I the only one who hates the Gamestop search function for game titles?

I often get "no result found" if I make the slightest typing mistake or don't have the exact spaces in the words, or even if I type it right, or it gives me the wrong version

Link to comment

No, you're not. It's to the point I'll just run a search for the game in Google with Gamestop, IGN, or PC Gamer in the search words, as opposed to searching those sites themselves.

Koray, have you heard the cue 'Sneak and Shoot' from Crysis 2?

Play it LOUD, it's fuckin' awesome. In fact the majority of the score is. Best soundtrack I've heard in ages.

I have the standard OST, but am waiting for La-La Land's two-disc release to really dig into the score. I have been playing the game a lot though, and think the music is really great.

The multiplayer, I must say, is probably one of the best I've experienced. While being a near carbon-copy of Call Of Duty, it takes everything that works from that franchise and improves upon everything that doesn't. You can't camp and get killstreaks, you need to pick up the dog tag of every player you kill, forcing you to move out and around. There is a nice array of weapons to choose from, and no gun that's the equivalent of the AK74u or Famas, that just completely outmatches every other weapon in the game.

There are preset 3-5-7 killstreaks, no fucking nukes or anything crazy. It's COD without everything that makes it cheap and annoying and accessible to 12-year olds. You can't run around like a programmed gun turret and kill everything in sight, ammo clips are realistically sized. There is a proper amount of recoil that makes it hard to shoot from a distance. There is no prone!!! And while that can be fun and useful at times, it does change the gameplay drastically. Firing from the hip will probably get you killed 90% of the time, so actual skill and aim is required.

I love it.

In other news, can't wait to get Portal 2 tomorrow.

I concur. The (frequently spectacular) campaign ain't too shabby either, numerous flaws considered. I beat it twice, got the Supersoldier achievement.

The things you listed above are EXACTLY why I avoid CoD like the plague. Crysis' online genius lies in its sleight of hand Armorer/Invis trade-off. Two small additions which add tremendous depth - a clever design choice which most players take for granted. I look for shit like that in games and appreciate the innovation.

Portal 2 arrives later this week and the iPad 2 arrives today or tomorrow.

I think I'm just about to hit the meat of the campaign. I've been taking my time with it, playing mostly online with friends. Right now I'm at the beginning of the level where you meet back up with the Marines in the park.

You got a long way to go yet.

The campaign has a lot of problems, but it still manages to be quite brilliant in spite of them. The fact that the story's absolutely barmy helps.

I'll take sci-fi baloney over confusing globe-trotting terrorist hunting any day of the week. In fact I actually quite enjoyed the story Crysis tries to tell.

I'm not too fond of the campaign honestly. At least so far it's been ridiculously easy. I'll eventually get through it though. I just want to focus a lot on multiplayer because it takes forever to rank up. I can always go back and play the campaign of an old game, but online multiplayer has a sell by date.

Supersoldier is the hardest one, right? Right now I'm on Normal, but will go to that when I'm done to clean up all the trophies.

I actually, to much surprise, tried to continue my Veteran campaign of Black Ops the other day. Too fucking hard, not enough patience. Been at that same spot since like December. I give up.

I remember getting stuck like that in a hole in the rocks in Fallout 3, and trying to rocket jump myself out of it but just making a mess. Oh yea, fast travel.

Glitches suck.
