Popular Post Amer 2,096
After listening to the terrific recordings of THE BLUE MAX, SODOM AND GOMORRAH and THIEF OF BAGDAD; I cant stop raving about them. Even the 2cd Rozsa Concert recording was terrific. I never warmed up to the Elmer Bernstein FMC version of BAGDAD. This new 2 CD is a revelation and absolute joy to hear in a fresh modern day recording. The performances and and the songs are just wonderful. Rozsa shines here, I really cant wait to hear the new recording of BEN-HUR. I hope James would be able to employ Jim Titus for the regal artwork. But since Titus was hired by Prometheus (for BAGDAD) and it may be a matter of budget constraint for Tadlow. But it would be exciting to him on board for this title. Amer 2,096
Thanks @Richard I have EL CID- which is one of my favourite Rozsa' scores and also the various Jarre recordings such as LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. Lately, Tadlow productions have been superlative and transcended top quality and performances. I'm a big fan of Bernard Herrmann and the OBSESSION recording is tremendous on the 5.1 blu ray audio format.

I have be so lucky to have to opportunity to make new, complete recordings of THE PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES, EL CID, QUO VADIS, SODOM AND GOMORRAH ...and now for release in October probably his greatest film scoring achievement BEN-HUR ! Posted by James Fitzpatrick on Thursday, July 27, 2017 Can't wait for October! It is one of those old recordings that was preserved quite well over those decades. What I would like to be included, however, is some of the concert arrangements from the LP albums (Christ's theme etc). In either case, I'll be buying this one. Incanus 5,714
Well given the usually meticulous presentations Tadlow has done for Rózsa scores I wouldn't be surprised if there was a concert suite on the set. Then again the complete score is so long it might not leave any room on the second disc unless they add a third one for all the alternate material and stuff like concert arrangements. After the FSM set, no new version seems strictly necessary, as we have the full score in good sound plus alternates and tons of album arrangements to boot. You could even argue that a Tadlow recording, which always tries to emulate the film recording (in terms of tempi etc.) as closely as possible, is more redundant than others. But I think there's always a point for new recordings of classics, so this is a sure buy for me. Plus, the FSM sounds great for a 1959 recording, but the Tadlow should sound better. 1 hour ago, crocodile said: James gotta eat. crocodile 8,000
I will be getting this. Karol While I love the FSM Ben-Hur set as the comprehensive restoration of the original score I am really excited to hear the score in modern sound as the quality of the old tapes varies quite a bit. And with that price tag this is a no-brainer. I am really grateful to Fitzpatrick for his continued work and passion for all things Rózsa as his re-recordings have really solidified my fandom of the composer over the years. And yeah concert material doesn't seem to be too extensively explored here, I guess for the lack of space to fit on 2 discs.
