The Complete Cue Lists Thread

I won't discuss this any further unless it's in a PM to me.

I am asking you as a professional courtesy to respect my wishes on this.

I think there was just some misunderstanding...

mnac87, the purpose of this page is to collect official information about the original names of the cues and their reel/slate numbers (meaning: as they are written in the sheet music), which is something that in general cannot be just deduced from the track lists in CDs. The CD tracks can have different names than those given to the specific cues by the composer. The reel/slate numbers or the "M" numbers also cannot be assigned for sure just by inspecting the order of the cues in the score. In other words, if a given cue is the 7th piece of music in the movie, this does not imply that it was labelled as "M7" on the sheet music. It may have been given a different order number and then moved, or it may have been given a reel/slate number instead, and so on.

If I understand correctly by your words "I don't know how to assign reel numbers yet" and "effort on my part", you probably mean that you have assigned the "M" numbers to the cues of the recording based on the order of the cues in the movie. Fine, but it is not what people are looking for in this page. Here only official cue names and numbers are collected. In other words, you should not do any effort at all to assign numbers, you either have the official information or not. I am sure this is what Jay meant.

If instead your source for the "M" numbers is official, please state the source more clearly.

I appreciate your input on this, but Jay and I are now discussing this matter in private.

However, I will tell you this much:

Leaked = illegal, no matter what label you assign it.

I will not steal information and post it as a form of prestige.

I always go through the proper channels to get my information out of academic integrity.

I hope you understand my position on this.

Just so you know, many of these lists are publicly listed and notated in several academy libraries throughout the US (USC has many handwritten papers). You can see the exact cue titles and names on Omni Music releases. Also, Film Score Monthly and Intrada tend to include the cue assembly in many of their liner notes. No stealing necessary in so many cases.

That's fine. Libraries and approved releases through publishing companies and trade magazines are what I would use.

No stealing necessary in so many cases.

That doesn't excuse the rest of the cases where stealing does take place.

You know what they say about people in glass houses...

I hope you enjoyed your copy of the handwritten Main Title from Mars Attacks.

Just so I don't take what you've said the wrong way, what are you trying to say?

I know what it means, thank you very much. I was simply extrapolating more information from Sharky.

I hope you enjoyed your copy of the handwritten Main Title from Mars Attacks.

Except I never made a cue list for Mars Attacks on this thread, so this example doesn't apply.

As I said before, I am taking up matters with Jay in private, so can we please end this conversation and retain the professional atmosphere of this thread?

I mean you no disrespect, and I don't want to walk away from this with bad blood between us.

So trading or sharing scores in private is fine, but once you once you start listing the original slate numbers and titles in public you've gone over the line? I just want to be clear. The distinction seems a bit arbitrary to me, especially when there are very educational and informative score analysis threads on JWFan. None of these would be possible without studying the PDFs - the sharing of which involves IPR infringement.

Fair enough. I don't want any bad blood either. I just didn't like your haughty tone in this thread.

Without going into too much detail...

All I'm saying that is that if I'm going to make a cue list on this thread, I don't want to feel ashamed of myself after finishing it or be branded as guilty for going through proper channels to make such a list.

I can't stop anyone here from illegally obtaining film scores or infringing on intellectual property, but I do have my standards. If I keep scores (including your Mars Attacks score which you gave me, thank you again), it's strictly for research purposes for my dream career as a film composer. Nothing more.

I'm sorry that I come off as haughty. I'm just very passionate about defending my beliefs.

Indeed, nobody has asked you to steal any information and post it here, as far as I know. So: just don't do it. I don't see the problem. As it has already been agreed, a great part of the information present in this page is publicly available from Omni Music releases or Libraries' websites, or some legal CD releases.

Well said. Now, let's move on please and let's post some cue lists! Illegal or not, I don't care as long as they are the real ones!

I know I shouldn't start this topic again, but I don't quite follow, so please excuse me. You mentioned your endeavour again, using proper channels for the cuelists, but I still don't know where that Nightmare Before Christmas list came from exactly. All I know is that Burton+Elfman used the usual convention ([reelno.]M[cueno.]) on their older stuff (like Beetlejuice or Edward Scissorhands) and they still did on Corpse Bride later on, which was also stop-motion. So I reckon NBC is no different. I'm just confused.

I'd love to share another cuelist by the way, but I don't have any at the moment :)

He just took the track titles from the Elfman/Burton box set, added one "cue", then made up his own slate numbers

When I download pornos, I like to rename them based on girls from high school they look like the most. Is there a website where I can post my lists? I think they'd be pretty interesting.

The recording sessions have a few wrong slate numbers (more precisely for the first reel), which I corrected. Indeed, going by the recording sessions, the first reel supposedly goes from 1M1A to 1M21, with the next cue (3M22) starting the third reel (which would mean there was no cue written for the second reel). However, if you look at the Soundcloud page and the official site, you can see that there are cues that have a slate number starting with 2M (2M12 In Gym, 2M15 Ulla & The Minister, etc.). Thus, that means that the slate numbers in the recording sessions are incorrect here, and the second reel starts with 2M12, possibly sooner (on the Bandcamp page, 1M9 is listed as 1M9 The Dream, so the only other possible start for the second reel is either 1M10 or 1M11, though both slate numbers could be correct in the recording sessions). In the same way, the third reel actually doesn't start with 3M22 (like the recording sessions' slate numbers would have believe), but with 3M20, as seen on the Soundcloud page.

On a sidenote: I have no idea what the cues Lib Search and Lib Shadows are. Possibly cues that weren't written for specific scenes, but rather composed to be used anywhere in the film.

Missing on the list are the cue titles for the following cues: 1M6, 1M10, 1M11, 2M14, 2M17A, 3M21, 3M22, 4M28, and 5M35.

Most likely Lib stands for Library cue, meaning that they weren't written for specific scenes like you said.
