John Takis and Tim Burden discuss Jaws and Jaws 2 on the latest Movie Magic.

Hello!

Which score do you prefer? It's a discussion that probably won't ever go away. Jaws is the focus, but there's also a veritable feast of other film music from James Horner, Michael Giacchino, Dimitri Tiomkin, John Powell and Gabriel Yared.

My latest show might be enjoyed by some of you, so I hope you do. Thanks as always to John Takis for his contribution:

Jaws 2 is musically in some kind of similar universe to the original. Many cues feel like they could be dropped material from the original score. Then you get this bombastic and satirical-sounding music for the shark attacks that really separates it from the original. It comes off like kind of a parody there.

IMO, the scores are (almost) equally good, but in markedly different ways.

The orginal movie is way better than the sequel, and the trouble of comparing these scores starts right there.
