The single most beautiful piece of music ever written by John Williams

I think this is to pick a whole cue, not a 10 seconds moment of one

It's a difficult choice

Maybe Theme from Jurassic Park

Yoda and the Force is probably one of the most awesome in the film

Here's a list if I were to make a c d compilation of "JW Most Beautiful Pieces" (which should be the proper topic title instead of "pick just one" which is impossible.

-Song for World Peace 2008 revised edition

-Marion's Theme 2008 Concert Version

-Regaining a Son from 7 years in tibet

-Back to America from Angela's Ashes

-A New Beginning from Minority Report

-Exit Music from Hook

-In Orbit from Spacecamp

-Princess Leia's Theme

-Yoda's Theme

-Han Solo and the Princess Concert Version

-Anakin's Theme from The Phantom Menace

-JAWS 2 End Title

-The Ballroom Scene from Witches of Eastwick

-Leaving Home from Superman

-Fawkes the Phoenix from CoS

-Reading Lesson from Stanley and Iris

-Thoughts of Home from Munich

-Santoni's Compassion from Monsignor

-The People's House from Lincoln

-Harry's Wondrous World from HPSS

-For Gillian from The Fury

-The First Seance from Family Plot

-Adventures on Earth from E.T.

-Finale from CE3K

-The Reunion from AI

-American Collection Theme

Too many to narrow it down to one. Goodbyes and The Landing from Amazing Stories, Among the Clouds, Listening to Carson and Mom Returns/Finale are some I haven't seen mentioned.

Well, this must be due to my bad English but I consider the 'beautiful' with some beauty in there.

Many of the suggestions are festive, heroic and adventurous.

My choice for beautiful is and always will be The Returnees from CE3K. But I wouldn't play it as show piece for the non Williams fan...

For those who don't know it, please check it out. The second part of it especially.

I love this piece but I prefer the original version.

Do you mean the original Satellite Celebration or the one on the Unfinished Journey/American Journey album?

Mom Returns/Finale and Listening to Carson are excellent choices! I also have to agree with most cues on King Mark's list.

Oh, the one in the American Journey album, cause I thought it was the original...

i think he means the original original with Japaneses lyrics and percussions plus a choir at the end. It's beautiful but no available good recording

But I especially like the Film Night 2012 performance, hence my rant about the crap bitrate of online streams. I'd give anything to have this in 320k

It is for me impossible to name that single particular piece that would top everything else in this man's bountiful career. Too tough a challenge.

what a wishy washy answer. It is not impossible, you simple pick a piece of music that you keep going back too over and over. What harm is there for you to name one, or several is so be it but it's not a difficult or life and death question.

Who said anything about "life and death?" One of the reasons this is such a challenge is because it's a great question—and (as so many have demonstrated) it's too easy to let yourself off the hook by listing your top three or five or twelve, because you can't make up your mind. (I thought for a second that Maurizio was just blatantly thumbing his nose at the rules, until I realized what he was actually doing. ;))

So I'm up a stump as well. So many to choose from, most of which have already been grabbed up. (Though I don't think anyone hit on "Theme from Always" as presented on The Spielberg/Williams Collaboration album, which is another top contender in my case.) But if I had someone in front of me who was going to make an end-all decision about opening themselves up to the music of John Williams based on one piece that I might play for them. . . .

Much as I hate to be a copycat or coattailer, it would come down to two pieces: either the greater part of "Visitors/Bye/End Titles" from Close Encounters (sans the first 1:51 or so—the "Visitors" part—and including the section inside the Mothership), or the final seven minutes of Adventures on Earth. And, since I want to honor the rules of the game, I've gotta settle on one or the other. No exceptions.

So the winner is . . . Adventures on Earth. Barely.

The Ballroom Scene from Witches of Eastwick has to be close to the top of my list. I can find many more, but that one I didn't even have to think about.

Damn you, Pixie, I was going say that! As it is, I agree with you: "The Seduction Of Suki, And The Ballroom Scene", is, in point of fact, the most beautiful, and most romantic thing that JW has ever written. What brain-dead suit decided to replace it with Turandot????!!!!!!

The love scene (with the weird bats & red laser fx) from Dracula was damn cheesy to look at, but had one of the maestro's most beautiful pieces. The ballroom scene from Witches of Eastwick was another good one. "Among the Clouds" from Always is also one of his best. So many to choose from!

If I'm looking for 20 seconds of tears from heaven, the beginning crecendo of Reunion of Friends from Harry Potter (:22 - :42). The string melody with flute counter-melody breaks the scale.

If I want something more naturally remarkable in beauty, there's the lush wistful strings of Bait for E.T. from 1:22 - 1:36.
