"I remember 'Superman,' especially the intro where they explained what Krypton was," she said recently over tea in a sandwich shop here. "That music was so beautiful. It matched so perfectly with the images." It also helped inspire her future career. "I was either going to play violin in an orchestra or sing it, but I'd have something to do with the planet Krypton and Superman."
To fulfill her plan to perform film scores, on her new album, 'Petra Goes to the Movies' (Anti-), she sings all the essential brass, reed, string and percussion parts to 13 themes, including two by John Williams for 'Superman,' overdubbing her voice as many as 40 times.

It's a cool idea, but I don't think I could listen to this CD more than once or twice.

Hey, with a good orchestra, size doesn't make a difference. It's how you work the baton, you know what I'm saying?

And listening to a CD is like watching internet porn. It's not better than with the real thing.
