The pre-filming material works well alone (although you are missing some highlights, like The Shadow Chase)....

1-01 Jupiter Ascending - 1st Movement (4:13)
1-02 Jupiter Ascending - 2nd Movement (3:25)
1-03 Jupiter Ascending - 3rd Movement (5:55)
1-04 Jupiter Ascending - 4th Movement (3:26)
1-06 I Hate My Life (2:07)
1-08 The Abrasax Family Tree (9:14)
1-10 The Titus Clipper (7:05)
2-02 A Wedding Darker (6:07)
2-05 It's A Hellava Chase (8:13)
2-09 Flying Dinosaur Fight (5:28)
2-10 Commitment (9:57)

I think the OST is already sequenced in a way that makes sense!

Film-chronological probably doesn't work. Does it work for the après-filmic tracks only perhaps?

The OST is already *essentially* in film order, more or less. There's no way to be strict about that because the film hacks and chops up every piece of music there is, but the OST is close to the ... "spirit" of the final film order of things.

What about sequencing the pre-filmic cues? Were these written with some kind of order in mind?

No. There is no "order" for those cues. They are just separate musical ideas for various characters or ideas presented to Giacchino from the siblings.

The album doesn't really end well now, does it... (with the bonus track).

I think it does end strong that way, actually! With Commitment acting like the climax of the score, and Flying Dinosaur Fight With Guts acting like the start of the End Credits kinda.

I'll repost this earlier post I made if that helps:

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll likely leave the album as it is for now (even though the last track does bother me a bit) - too many other albums in need of sequencing ;)

Easy, they had to make up ASCAP titles for each little "cue" in the film, even if said "cue" was a music editor assembly of bits and pieces of the pre-recorded suites and/or film cues.

But, if Giacchino said that the pre-recorded music made up about 55% of the film's music, then where's the other 45%?

Even if we're only missing 15 minutes, that's not counting film versions that people really really desire.

Also, I Hate My Life is not even titled correctly on the OST, there's a scene where Jupiter gets a tattoo or something nearing the end of the film, and they use that cue there.

All I know is there was ~70 minutes of suites recorded and they were all on the OST, and ~50 minutes of film cues recorded and 35 minutes of those are on the OST, and 15 minutes of those are unreleased.

I haven't studied the film to see how things were hacked up, moved around, etc.  I saw the film once when it was in theaters and that's it.

What?  Who would desire that?  We want the full cues as they were recorded on the sound stage, not what the music editors hacked together for the final cut.

The suite was originally called "Time To Go", and its used in the final film for the Brazl-inspired sequence. The film cue that uses the same melody, for the early montage of her cleaning toilets or whatever when she says the line "I hate my life", is unreleased.  So I guess for the OST, he didn't want to include both the suite and the similar film cue, so he put the suite in the chronological spot where that montage happens, and renamed it to I Hate My Life.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're confused about.  Does this not make sense to you?

I just don't understand why they renamed it when they used it for another scene, I don't know, maybe things were last minute in the production there, and they wanted a lighter version of that theme during that scene.

I think he just liked the longer suite version better than the shorter film cue version, so put the suite on the OST and not the film cue.  I don't get the big controversy about what he happened to title the album track.  Big deal >shrug<
