Thor 7,493
Episode # 19: Time travel movie scores! With EDGE OF TOMORROW in cinemas, we explore some of the greatest music in the time travel genre. This is in Norwegian.http://celluloidtunes.no/celluloid-tunes-19-musikk-fra-tidsreise-filmer/PLAYLIST:"Main Theme" from BACK TO THE FUTURE (Alan Silvestri)"Main Titles" from SOURCE CODE (Chris Bacon)"London 1900" from THE TIME MACHINE (Russell Garcia)"I Don't Belong Here" from THE TIME MACHINE (Klaus Badelt)"The Hunt" from PLANET OF THE APES (Jerry Goldsmith)"Up the Shard" from DOCTOR WHO - 7TH SEASON (Murray Gold)"Somewhere in Time" from SOMEWHERE IN TIME (John Barry)"Main Title/Bill & Ted University" from BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE (David Newman)"Run" from LOOPER (Nathan Johnson)"End Credits" from FIELD OF DREAMS (James Horner)
Jay 37,346
You consider Source Code to be a Time Travel film?
Thor 7,493
Uhm, yes....don't you?To be fair, though, my category is a bit wider than just time travel per se. Also includes alternate timelines etc.
Jay 37,346
I dunno, I mean until the ending of the movie you're supposed to think it's a computer generated extrapolation of what happened on the train, right? And even at the end, it's alternate realities he's been traveling into, though I guess technically it was always to a point in the past so I guess you win Regardless, damn the main titles to that score are freaking great!
Thor 7,493
Indeed. A cool mix of James Newton Howard, Jerry Goldsmith and 70's paranoia thriller sounds in the style of Michael Small and David Shire. Too bad the rest of the score can't live up to that, but it's a pretty cool score nonetheless.

Thor 7,493
No LOST? He, he....no. Time travel was only one out of a gazillion weird things in that one. There are a few that didn't quite make the cut for various reasons -- the TERMINATORs, THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT, TIMECOP, ARMY OF DARKNESS, GROUNDHOG DAY, 12 MONKEYS, TIME BANDITS etc.

Incanus 5,714
Because I had no idea there was such an event here. I have not heard one peep out of the Nordic Film Music Days let alone that they were taking place in Finland. Because you know, nothing like this would ever happen here. Except it did. And I was not there. Oh bugger!

Thor 7,493
Thanks, Incanus. Yeah, it occurred to me that you would have been ideal here. But it was only after I had landed in Helsinki that I remembered you lived in Finland, and by then it was too late (the deadline for participation had long since passed). Otherwise, I would have given you a heads-up earlier.Oh, well. These events are rotating between the Nordic countries every year. Last year was Norway, this year was Finland and next year.....well, it's not decided yet.

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
The Norwegian calender runs differently Jason. Also Thor never judges a score on how it works in the filom, but simply on how it plays as an album.
Thor 7,493
I've seen about 120 films from 2014, and listened to several hundred 2014 scores -- so I'm actually unusually well prepared this year.Of course, there's still a chance of some gems appearing between Christmas and New Year's. Like Elfman's BIG EYES. But for a variety of reasons (logistics and other things), I had to get it out now.
Jay 37,346
That's why I just wait until January to do these sort of lists. I don't get the point in doing it before you've seen/heard everything.
Thor 7,493
Yeah, I usually do it in early January too. But this time, it had to be this way for variety of reasons.Plus....beyond BIG EYES (which I already sampled on the film's website), I'm not aware of any new things coming out in the next two weeks that could potentially make it. I think having seen 120 films and listened to more than 300 soundtracks from the year makes for a good enough pool. I've certainly never been even CLOSE to having seen and heard this much from a single year before.
