Uhm, yes....don't you?

To be fair, though, my category is a bit wider than just time travel per se. Also includes alternate timelines etc.

I dunno, I mean until the ending of the movie you're supposed to think it's a computer generated extrapolation of what happened on the train, right? And even at the end, it's alternate realities he's been traveling into, though I guess technically it was always to a point in the past so I guess you win :)

Regardless, damn the main titles to that score are freaking great!

Indeed. A cool mix of James Newton Howard, Jerry Goldsmith and 70's paranoia thriller sounds in the style of Michael Small and David Shire. Too bad the rest of the score can't live up to that, but it's a pretty cool score nonetheless.

No LOST? ;)

He, he....no. Time travel was only one out of a gazillion weird things in that one.

There are a few that didn't quite make the cut for various reasons -- the TERMINATORs, THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT, TIMECOP, ARMY OF DARKNESS, GROUNDHOG DAY, 12 MONKEYS, TIME BANDITS etc.

Because I had no idea there was such an event here. I have not heard one peep out of the Nordic Film Music Days let alone that they were taking place in Finland. :crymore:

Because you know, nothing like this would ever happen here. Except it did. And I was not there. Oh bugger!

Funny thing is... I knew about it. But then, I guess, I use social networks more than you do.

No matter, you will be prepared next year.

Karol

I have a feeling it will be held someplace else. :P

My antediluvian social networking skills work against me.

Anyway, an excellent interview Thor! It was fascinating to hear about how Doyle got into film composing in a bit more detail. Doyle is such a great guy. :)

Thanks, Incanus. Yeah, it occurred to me that you would have been ideal here. But it was only after I had landed in Helsinki that I remembered you lived in Finland, and by then it was too late (the deadline for participation had long since passed). Otherwise, I would have given you a heads-up earlier.

Oh, well.

These events are rotating between the Nordic countries every year. Last year was Norway, this year was Finland and next year.....well, it's not decided yet.

Tsk Tsk, Mikko!

These things are not exactly widely publicized Jason! I have no Finnish film music contact circle and as Thor said this Nordic Film Music Days is held in different country each year.

Episode # 25: The 10 Best Scores of 2014 (9th International Edition)

Our, i.e. my, selection of the ten best scores of the year. Have a listen...it's less than an hour of your time.

http://celluloidtunes.no/celluloid-tunes-25-the-10-best-scores-of-2014-9th-international-edition/

PLAYLIST:

Nope, not giving anything away. You'll have to listen.

I've seen about 120 films from 2014, and listened to several hundred 2014 scores -- so I'm actually unusually well prepared this year.

Of course, there's still a chance of some gems appearing between Christmas and New Year's. Like Elfman's BIG EYES. But for a variety of reasons (logistics and other things), I had to get it out now.

Link to comment

That's why I just wait until January to do these sort of lists. I don't get the point in doing it before you've seen/heard everything.

Link to comment

Yeah, I usually do it in early January too. But this time, it had to be this way for variety of reasons.

Plus....beyond BIG EYES (which I already sampled on the film's website), I'm not aware of any new things coming out in the next two weeks that could potentially make it. I think having seen 120 films and listened to more than 300 soundtracks from the year makes for a good enough pool. I've certainly never been even CLOSE to having seen and heard this much from a single year before.
