I do have a hefty collection of poetry from Byron, Tennyson, Wordsworth, Whitman, Keats and Yeats still unread in addition to those. All great bargain price Wordsworth editions.I also got Agatha Christie's last Poirot novel The Curtain but have been putting off reading it just yet (until I have seen the said episode of the TV series broadcasted next January). Thought about buying it but then realized if I loved then, I'd want to buy the sixth right away, but it will only be available in hardcover for like two years.. bleh. I bought that in May and was basically stuck with it until yesterday - it kinda started to drag for the last two books. Now I'm finally through and catching up on all the stuff I've accumulated in the meantime (and before). For now I started Stephen King's Joyland, which my cousin gave me this year for All Hallow's Read. And yes, I'm aware this should go into that other thread, but I'm too lazy to look it up. This set up is more analagous to having a movies you plan to watch thread paired with the last film watched thread. Just the way I see it. Future films thread is for trailers and news mostly. This is simply another recently purchased items thread, but geared towards books. If anything, it's a poor man's attempt at a book club, meant to galvanize interest in the books we buy. It's tough to pin down, relative to any music I know (film or otherwise), what exactly the sonic nature of such an adaptation would be. That is very true. It would depend upon the story very much as there is a wide range of moods and atmospheres they evoke. But when thinking of his general style it is very true that musically it would require something special. At times stark, at times gothic and then refined and dry and serious and at other times s dripping with deluge of visual flair and maddening wonder. I hear orchestra though, always some kind of humanizing orchestral sound wedded with perhaps electronics and strange instrumental sounds, however grim or cold it might be.
