filmmusic 1,826
I was searching for a review of the UK bluray of The River and found this: https://www.popcorncinemashow.com/2017/05/10/the-river-blu-ray-review/ I think we have to hunt down that Dr. Loomis guy! fommes 153
Quick question: are all the isolated scores (& music/effects tracks) mentioned in the opening post? It would perhaps be interesting to have an addendum with DVDs with isolated scores that weren't on the blu-rays anymore, although perhaps there's another thread on that. Well, about the DVDs you could check this: http://www.jwfan.com/?page_id=459 i think the only iso score that wasn't on the bluray, is the Killers (it's in the Criterion edition and it's really a music + FX track)

Jay 37,352
So far there is no solo Witches BD, just a Practical Magic / Witches combo BD, and it has no special features http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Practical-Magic-and-The-Witches-of-Eastwick-Blu-ray/10755/ thx99
ConcertAttendee 23
Just wanted to share for North America based John Williams fans... Both the River Blu-Ray and Angela's Ashes Blu-Ray are listed as Region B, but they play just fine on Blu Ray Players in the US. I just bought both films from Amazon.com, because the listing said they were region free. When I received them the back said Region B, but I put them in my player and they played just fine. Not sure if the Region code means anything anymore? Or if some manufacturer of discs just list Region B on the packaging but they aren't really? I don't know. But if you are interested in owning these two movies on Blu Ray, they will work. thx99

Naïve Old Fart 9,516
Thankfully, and as you probably know, the DVD of THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK, has a perfectly good iso score. It's also available on an "unofficial" (nudge-nudge, wink-wink, say no more!) CD.
thx99 1,740
Yes, not complaining about the Witches of Eastwick's DVD iso score. Rather was following up on @filmmusic's comment/question about The Killers being the only JW iso score on DVD NOT to make it over to the corresponding BD release. It appears that Witches of Eastwick makes it two.

If this was a 4K restoration, I would pay even $60-70 for a barebones release. But unfortunately it isn't. Anyway, I hope it's decent. Koray Savas 2,251
Kino releases always retail for $30, it's a specialty label like Twilight Time and Criterion. But as Kendall already pointed out, Amazon prices rarely stay at SRP. My pre-orders of their Barton Fink and The Good, The Bad And The Ugly releases are both sitting at $19.99. filmmusic 1,826
I LOVE the cover! With all the really bad and kitsch covers they're doing these days for BLurays, it's nice they used an original film poster. I wish they had released it in the start of summer though, because it would be great for a summer viewing.

filmmusic 1,826
I guess noone has purchased The River to comment on quality, right? By the way, i've just seen there is an HD version of Heartbeeps so maybe this will come on Bluray too. It's one of those "so bad I have to own on Bluray" movies! Koray Savas 2,251
I came across Heartbeeps on TV once at like 2am while channel surfing half asleep. The score makes that film watchable, but I only ever needed to watch it once.
Thor 7,495
HEARTBEEPS is one of Williams' two worst films, but unlike the other (JOHN GOLDFARB), its visuality -- especially the opening -- is so gaudy and kitchy, it's actually somewhat hypnotizing to watch. I'd love to see how it holds up in crisp Blu quality.
filmmusic 1,826
I just read a comment at facebook about the new Close Encounters bluray by a reviewer that I generally trust that " the new BD looks... different". Hmmm. He didn't say it looks great, or extraordinary or something. And those dots... I'm expecting some controversy here. Maybe a shift towards yellow tint as it's usual with these 4k restorations? He says comparisons are coming...

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
It looked great. But it obviously still looks like a 1970's anamorphic film. So not the sharpest image, and tons and tons of lens flare. 3 minutes ago, filmmusic said: yes. here's the comparison: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews33/close_encounters_of_the_third_kind_blu-ray.htm You can open the screenshots in new tabs and seer the comparison better. Thor 7,495
That's great. One of my favourite movies JW has scored. We've had to suffice with a crummy-looking DVD so far, which is basically a scandal. I'm hoping they've restored it properly, so Zsigmond's awesome cinematography shines like it's supposed to. filmmusic
