Did you regret that Williams once worked with Stone? I think a little bit of context is necessary here. Since 2005, Williams entered a phase in his career where he limits his film work to commitments where he can have a very controlled environment and can be let free of writing what he wants. This means that nowadays it's basically limited to Spielberg and Star Wars. The contemporary Hollywood film industry is not an ideal place for "artiste" figures like JW. And of course, methods, practices and requests changed immensely in the last 10-15 years. JW can work only when the production would change the methods around him and not viceversa. This isn't star-power or bourgeoise attitude. It's the only way JW can work and how he offers his services to directors and producers (i.e. he doesn't have a team of writers working with him). Of course, as he said in the recent interview with The Times, he's now older and have less physical energy, so he can spend only a certain amount of hours writing every day (but he STILL writes every day), hence it's natural he has to limit his working schedule. Also, ask yourselves why JW didn't score anything beyond Star Wars and Spielberg since 2005 (with The Book Thief being the exception to the rule, of course). Directors and producers tend to like a very different style and approach than what JW offers. Finally, he's also very loyal to people and environments that gave him success and opportunities, so it means that certain directors and productions take precedence over any other offer he might receive. I think that, if time, schedule and energy would have permitted, he wouldn't have regret to work on Ready Player One and West Side Story. David is participating with prerecordings and will step in as needed when Gustavo isn't available in postproduction.
