#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Yeah, sounds like a quick rewrite to get rid of the too obvious Superman ostinato.

Brónach 1,302
I love the Superman ostinato.I prefer the film version because it sounds like it tries harder. The opening part with BAM BAM baaam before the theme creates a fun feeling of vertigo, like when you throw a ball and expect it to fall. It contains fun snippets (0:24!), and you don't actually know where's it going. It's essentially, or it could be, a super condensed exposition of ideas to be used in a X-Men score! It has a stronger Powell voice. Or a Powell short of time. Heh. Sweeping Strings 2,352
'Violent psychopath'? That guy's about to crush his head, heat-vision to the man-boobs is letting him off lightly IMO.And the Flash is being an irritating dick in the other strip. Sharkissimo 1,973
I prefer the album version. The film version tries too hard. It's like it was ghost-written by David Arnold.

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Any idea why he rewrote it? I assume to get rid of the Superman bit. Maybe they producers thought it was a bit too much on the nose.
Sharkissimo 1,973
That's a very common rhythm. It's a bit ridiculous to say it's exclusively for Superman.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Which is why most reviews at the time referred to it as the Superman ostinato, as did many many filmscore fans. What other scores that you know use that ostinato? Sharkissimo 1,973
Reams of Williams scores. IIRC, you can hear the rhythm when E.T. first escapes from Keys, and in TPM for the Droid Battle.

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
The 2 note rhythm you point out, actually has 3 notes. a succession of the famous two note followed by a third punctuating note.Comparing the very very simply Jaws rhythm with the more specific Superman ostinato doesn't really wash though. And do you guys really think using that ostinato in a superhero movie isnt done on purpose? Trent B 337
I have always preferred the film version for the Main Titles of X-Men 3. Like others have stated the album version is to "formal". Supposedly Powell wanted the film version on the album but the album had all ready been finished by the time he finished re-writing and re-scoring the twelve scenes (including Main Titles) that he did.
