Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection

Still no word on if Disney will continue The Legacy Collection with more scores in the future, but they are releasing a box set of the first 12 releases on November 13th.

The box set costs $260, which is roughly $70 more than you could buy the releases individually for right now! So its a $70 box. WTF, Disney?

Hmm...

Can you say, "rip off"?

Shame. All the Menken scores should have been issued. Instead of the basically straight re-issues of the classic films' expansions... :(

But well, with the rescues down under done by intrada... there is hope that someday they will be done...

And The Hunchback of Notre Dame which is celebrating it's 20th anniversary this year.

Karol

Oh yes, that too is my most wanted one along with BATB.

I always considered it as a 1997 movie, because I first saw it in a re-run in summer of 1997!

(although I did see it dubbed in my language and I was furious because I always prefer the original, but apparently the cashier didn't know the difference between subtitles and dub, when I specifically asked her if the film is with Greek subtitles and she said "yes"!)

It appears it was a 2 year thing Disney did and now they are done with it.

Where is your avatar?

So......Disney did some great stuff and left the rest behind? Too bad. Well at least we have The Lion King and two Alan Manken's score.

I didn't set avatar. Is it necessary?

It's funny the different releases people value most from that series. You clearly most wanted the Disney Renaissance Era whereas I was most excited to get Pinocchio,  Sleeping Beauty,  and Mary Poppins. I can take or leave 90s Disney.

Well if s more that those are the ones that were expanded.

The classic Era stuff was just reissues

There are so many on that list I'd buy in a heartbeat. 101 Dalmatians, Jungle Book, Many Adventures, Peter Pan, etc.  So sad they abandoned it :( :crymore:

Yeah that makes sense, I just didn't care for the Broadway-style approach of 90s Disney musicals.  Not my thing at all.  They may have been reissues, but I didn't own them already and the packaging is so gorgeous!

I didn't own any of the classic releases, so while they may not have been "more definitive," the Legacy releases were certainly not "less definitive."  Good enough for me.

The real revelation for me was The Lion King - that is a good sounding score when you can actually hear the instruments.

I'm gutted they will probably never release Ron Jones' DuckTales music.

That would be something Intrada would make happen, not Disney's Legacy line

That's the problem - we have no idea if we're in a gap between releases, or if the entire line is totally done

I was recently re-watching Aladdin and listening to the Hunchback of Notre Dame soundtrack. Both are my absolute top favourite Alan Menken scores I would really have loved to own in complete form. Would be really disappointing if they ended the Legacy series before that happened. :( Perhaps the older vintage titles they reissued without adding any new score material didn't sell well, and made them think that future albums won't sell well? But then, I imagine titles like Lion King and Toy Story must've done reasonably well and I don't know how they overlooked that. Of course, it's just speculation.

I like doing this together. They synch up very well. I really like how God Save the Outcasts lines up with Aladdin's escape from the treasure cave.

What's interesting is that the original Legacy Collection were entirely titles that were celebrating an anniversary ending with 0 or 5 the year they came out.  Robin Hood's 45th isn't until next year, so this means if other titles are coming, they could be from any year.

Here's a list I put together a while back of potential titles

It seems Disney abandoned the 0-5 anniversary idea for whatever reason and I'm glad they did because they skipped a lot of grails in 2016.  Then again, who knows what released are planned right now.

Me personally, I'm hoping for The Fox And The Hound, and Aladdin (on top of Robin Hood). Pity some recent films are, well, too recent, for inclusion.
