Michael Giacchino's Jurassic World (2015)

New article briefly touches on Giacchino's Jurassic World score (and others this year).

http://variety.com/2015/music/features/michael-giacchinos-big-summer-1201483487/

And if it’s a big summer movie, does the score need to be big and loud too? Especially if there are dinosaurs? “If it does, then we’re doing it wrong,” says “Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow. “The music is something that stays intimate even in the most intense action sequences.

“This movie is about the relationship we have with dinosaurs, and how it mirrors our relationships with animals we have on the planet today. Michael’s music has themes that are very personal, so once things start to go crazy, it makes it that much scarier.”

He also considers Jurassic World a "thrill ride" score. Of course.

You will get your usual 120-piece orchestra playing interchangeable dime-a-dozen ostinatos for hours and tinkling piano and strings stuff for 'emotional' scenes. Not entirely Giacchino's fault, though.

I'm wondering if something like Giacchino wrote for the Tomorrowland teaser trailer would have worked here.

Which Tomorrowland teaser did he write music for?

None that I'm aware of!

Nope. It's a label owned by Universal

They've previously issued the OSTs to Universal films such as The Boxtrolls, Oblivion, Lucy, Oiija, A Million Ways To Die In The West, Dracula Untold, The Theory of Everything, Furious 7, etc.

Pretty low rent list actually.

It's not like Universal has been making good films in the past few years.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Universal_Pictures_films#2010s

Just look at that list - out of all the 2010s films, what are the best ones - American Reunion, Scott Pilgrim, and Kick-Ass? (Zero Dark Thirty is a Sony film). They've lost their way as a studio.

Maybe Universal doesn't have a lot of confidence in the score

It's the opposite, actually. If they had no faith, they'd sell the rights to another label and let them worry about turning a profit on it (or not). But they are expecting a big seller, so they are releasing it themselves on their own label.

Hope it's not digipack like The Boxtrolls.

Sorry!

Exciting! There's going to have to be a thread later about the best (or worst) Giacchino puns of 2015--there are going to be a lot of them!

Too bad most of the best puns there were already revealed during the recording sessions

On that the last of three summer scores Giacchino recorded is the first to have its track list revealed online.

Perhaps because its a Universal OST - the other two of his summer scores are both on Disney records.

I'm sure the OST is far from a complete presentation of the entire score

Sucks that it is a Digipack! I wonder if it will be in a jewel case in foreign release copies? LOVE the track names. "Costa Rican Standoff" is an interesting title, though. Sure, the island is off the coast of Costa Rica, but does this track maybe suggest part of the movie takes place on Costa Rica itself? Meh, looking too far into it. Giacchino puns don't deserve scrutiny. ;)

I replaced that with the copy of the soundtrack from the JP/TLW Collector's Edition DVD set. Came with the DVDs, film cells, photographs, and exclusive versions of JP and TLW soundtracks. Exclusive in the liner notes booklets/art only, really. Disc content is of course the same. But it was the only way (and still is as far as I know) to get TLW in a jewel case.

With all these crazy titles, I am surprised their creative juices ran out for the 22nd cue. Unless of course... it is so overt, its covert.
