And I believe Williams will give the porgs a flighty, woodwind motif, maybe flute, as opposed to a theme. His motivic associations in TFA were a noticeable deviation from the long-lined melodies of the OT (an evolution which started in the prequels). A lot of his TFA motifs are barely a few notes long and don't exactly develop as the film goes on (map theme).

heck, that description sounds like a Giacchino score!

Williams is the next Giacchino.

What instrument will Williams use to associate the adorable interactions between Chewie and the Porgs?

Chewie's never really had a musical identification of his own.

Xylophone.

It'll either be like the bird segment of Secrets of the Castle from PoA, or the pizzicato segment of Flight from Peru from RotLA.

Is this a preview of Williams' Porgs theme?!

Depends on what you consider a spoiler. If you do not want to read anything about the flm before-hand it is quite logical that you don't read any of the above artiles. It should be pretty obvious that an article about a movie is going to have some info about it. ;)

Well yeah, if you consider that sort of info a spoiler then don't read the articles and stay out of this kind of thread.

Some pedantic people even consider the mere premise of a film a spoiler. I remember back in the early 2000s there were discussions about whether to even see a movie because even that would constitute a spoiler!

The worst spoiler ever!

I know I've jaberred on about this repeatedly but, man, I just can't wait to see Canto Bight. The EW gallery contained our first look at a completed shot of the city, below, and it looks glorious. Even with all the footage of the filming in Dubrovnik, it was hard to imagine exactly how it would look when all the CGI was added. It's amazing how guys at computers can transform an environment like this. Beautiful. Seems to confirm at least a few design things from unused TFA Exotic City concept art are being used, as I'd been hoping for months.

In itself, of course, this shot isn't anything too special, but it promises a whole lot more. I can already imagine a ship coming in to land outside the casino, with a big Williams fanfare...

So it is August 13. I wonder whether we will be getting any footage this month.

TFA had a Korean TV spot debut on August 9, and a 15-second teaser on the 27th (and although neither had Williams music, they both of course generated lively discussions on that topic ;)). Rogue One had a full trailer on August 11.

Since we've only gotten one trailer from TLJ so far (with TFA, we'd already had two) I hope that they will follow the Rogue One model and give us a full second trailer soon. I don't want to wait till October! However, there's been little chatter from the places where we usually get wind of a new trailer...

Judging by the reflection at the top and the inside lighting, I think that the building itself might actually be a physical miniature model, with CGI additions.

There are usually subtle hints that give it away. I do a lot with CGI, so I can usually tell the difference quite easily. The building to me looks like it uses the old 5-pass trick. I don't know for sure though, just a guess.

My guess is that that structure is most likely a police station, or some other type of law-enforcement center. There are several "police speeders" (revealed in a leaked toy set) that are parked around the building, so that's my assumption on the purpose of the structure.

Also, here's a recent leaked image of one of the numerous BB units in service to the Resistance. Before the leak, they were reported to have an unfinished and rougher design, and a distinct "steampunk" vibe, so this seems to confirm those rumors.

What I don't get is why the Resistance is still using older and run-down models of both ships and droids in their service, like the Rebellion before them. I mean, they're supposedly funded by the New Republic, the latest galaxy-wide government, so why don't they have better resources? Heck, the First Order is an uprising that was formed from the shattered (and at the time, dreadfully under-resourced) remnants of the Empire, but why do they have better and much more high-tech resources than the Resistance? TFA hardly established the context and reason for this newest galactic conflict, so hopefully TLJ will substantially clear things up.

Entertainment Weekly confirmed it was the casino exterior in this article

Indeed, TFA left a lot of questions unanswered. The situation was explained pretty fully in the tie-in books such as Bloodline, but the short version is that...

a) There are a lot of First Order sympathizers in the Republic government, which partially explains why the Republic didn't really want to do anything about the First Order until it was too late.

b) The start of the Resistance represented a "divorce" from the Republic, in a sense. Leia is far from universally loved by her fellow senators (as explained in Bloodline, this is due to both to the fact that there are two political parties...

Spoiler

and the revelation of Leia's father's identity (Vader) several years before TFA

..., as well as of course the First Order and Empire sympathizers, people who just don't want another war and see Leia as too hawkish, etc. Leia certainly has her allies, but it's not as simple as the TFA crawl suggested. Leia basically had to leave the Republic to start the Resistance, and so relations between the two organizations are far from perfect.

You see, JJ cramped out and should have expanded open that in TFA itself. He made a balls of the political situation in that film. It's grand being that scant in ANH because it's straight forward good v bad and if it's the first Star Wars you've seen you don't need an explanation, if you've seen the PT you have the explanation.

In TFA, you've seen the first six, you've no idea why there's a bunch of bad guys after the "happily ever after" and you don't know why Leia is leading a "Resistance" when there's a legitimate government.

It looks completely CGI to me. Don't be fooled by the lighting; their renderers have that stuff down-pat these days.

I'm not saying that it look better than CGI, if anything I'm saying that it looks slightly inferior to modern CGI, which leads me to believe that it's a physical miniature. As I said, there are many subtle differences that hint at it.

So, something looks less real than something that isn't real, so it must mean it is real? What?
