^ Not in the movie.

Wow, really?  Is the entire sequence that would have been a part of not in the film, or do they still fly through the city together, we just don't see that shot?

No, that scene is not in the film at all. In fact there is very little Iron Man in it. Which is good.

This trailer shot kind of contradicts what the film is about. Which is funny because this is what oeople remember from the trailer.

Does it seem likely that at one point Spider-man and Iron Man did fly through the city together, and they cut that sequence out, or is it more plausible that shot was 100% invented for the trailer?

I can't think of any spot where it would fit. The point of the story is that Peter is waiting for the call from Stark following Civil War. A call that never really happens. So them hanging out like this just wouldn't work for this story. And this is sort of what makes him act on his own. They must have altered some stuff.

If this were a video game some people would be mounting a class action right now against Marvel and Sony Pictures for false marketing. That would actually be happening.

But I wanted to watch Spider-Man: Homecoming for Iron Man!

Stop craving for Spider-Man. We've got Deadpool now.

Doing a double feature at the cinema today while the family is at the in-laws!

Seeing Spider-Man and Baby Driver in a row.

I miss the old Regal Cinemas roller coaster intro.  New one sucks.

Let me know if Wright's film is any good.

Well, every JWFANer who saw it liked it:

Baby Driver

Edgar Wright's latest is slick and stylish and directed with a flair only a few directors possess. It's excellent.  Go see it.

Baby Driver - further proof (along with Scott Pilgrim) that Edgar Wright doesn't need to work with Pegg and Frost to turn in a good 'un.

Superbly chosen-and-used soundtrack, too.

Great fun, boasting a great cast. As usual, you're good hands with Wright. Only thing I wasn't too sure about was the ending though. Spacey is great, but Hamm needs more serious roles in film. Had a great time.

I saw Baby Driver yesterday. It is really good. I don't think I've seen a film like it before.

So expect Cremers to say he's the only one who liked it if he ends up watching it.

First movie done!

Spider-Man: Homecoming was basically a very entertaining action comedy.  Two thumbs up.  Doesn't touch the first two Raimis.

Score was unobtrusive.  Lots of pop songs.

And now my first ever true double feature is done!

I thought Baby Driver was.... pretty good.  A lot to love, a lot to admire, and I don't think it added up to greatness.  Nifty flick though.

Strange how sex is referred to as getting some action, but we don't call pornos action flicks.

Because these are more character studies, really.

They're more sort of mood pieces.

I didn't like Birdman either. And this is coming from me. I'm happy Keaton got some recognition, even if it was for some boring pretentious flick where he's running around in his underwear.

It was created specifically for the trailer.

Here's what director Jon Watts told ScreenCrush:

Quote

I think what happened was in the very first trailer they wanted a shot of Spider-Man and Iron Man flying together. And they were going to use something from the Staten Island Ferry [scene], but it just didn’t look that great — the background plate, because the Staten Island terminal is a very simple building. It almost looks like an unrendered 3D object. So I think I was like “Let’s just put them in Queens. Let’s use that as a backdrop.” Because we couldn’t just create a whole new shot, so let’s just use one of these shots of the subway; put them in there.”

I feel a little weird that there’s a shot in the trailer that’s not in the movie at all, but it’s a cool shot. It’s funny, I forgot that we did that.

He also discusses a shot of Vulture that was in the trailers, but not in the movie (sort of). It was made for a ComicCon sizzle reel and then repurposed and recomposited for the final film.

Spidey Man Homecoming - 8.5 / 10 -Just got back from the cinemas and really enjoyed this. Possibly my favorite Spider-Man film to date, or at least tied with SM2. Holland is a great as both Spider-Man and Peter Parker, and I really liked the high school aspect of the character being explored more, plus him and Stark's relationship was also good Also Keaton made for a really great Vulture, the scene in the car with him and Peter was legit terrifying. My only complaints were Flash Thompson being an annoying stuck-up rich kid (thankfully he doesn't have too many scenes), and some of the references, but those were more minor nitpicks then anything. Job well done Marvel.

War for the Planet of the Apes.

I was very positively surprised by this. It is not at all the film I was expecting. Way better than both Rise and Dawn in that it feels like a more like grown-up filmmaking. Not at all an action packed summer blockbuster that the trailers try to sell it as. It plays out more like a war drama actually... and quite slow-moving at that. The film is much more accomplished visually than you average blockbuster. Very little exposition or extended dialogue sequences. It more or less plays out almost completely on a visual level. It's not even that the story itself is that inventive or original... it is all about how well it is staged and directed it all is. I'm also very impressed with the CGI apes animation and the performances from Andy Serkis and Woody Harrelson. Two thumbs up from me!

Having said all that, it might be a bit too much of a downer for most people. If you're expecting a jolly action movie, look elsewhere.

Cool. That trailer didn't look promising and I liked the first two (more than I expected).

Mmm no. It is very good though. To be a masterpiece this film would need to say something new. As it stands, it is probably the most polished and sublime version of what we already had in previous two. It is simply better in terms if filmmaking craft...better written, directed, shot etc. Some people will find it to be slow and too long. I suspect it will be also too sombre for general audience who simply wants a "good time at the movies". But I sort of enjoyed it taking its time and being very short on action. It felt more like a "proper film", if that makes sense.

The second one was poor, I was disappointed with it. The first film was great fun though, it got the tone dead right. So I'm guessing this third one forgets all that and takes itself really seriously then, like the second film. Po-faced chimpanzees don't really work for me.

I wasn't much of a fan of the second one actually. The first one was ok. Neither of them really showed enough conviction for me -- neither silly nor serious enough. This one plays out more like a drama, rather than an action spectacular, and I give it credit for having balls to actually go for something. The original film was a great satire. The new one is the exact opposite. I do understand your point @Quintus - there is only so far you can push this concept before it gets too bloated for some people. I can see why you might not like. I'm sort of less interested in "what" the film does and more focused on "how". It's not so much that the story is great but how well it's told.
