The CD includes Schumans New England Triptych; John Williams For The Presidents Own; Jonathan Elkus transcription of Memories, Very Pleasant and Rather Sad: A Charles Ives Song Set featuring mezzo-soprano Gunnery Sgt. Sara DellOmo; Robert Russell Bennetts Symphonic Songs; Vincent Persichettis Psalm for Band; and a new Marine Band transcription of the finale to Aaron Copland's monumental third symphony.

...

The Marine Band produces recordings for educational purposes and to enhance the public affairs and community relations programs of the Marine Corps. The recordings are distributed free of charge to educational institutions, public libraries, and radio stations. Because appropriated funds are used, they may not be distributed for private use and are not for sale. Educators, librarians, and station managers may request that their educational institution, library, or radio station be added to the CD mailing list by contacting Marine Band Public Affairs at marineband.publicaffairs@usmc.mil.

The Marine Band CDs usually turn up at the local libraries in my area in Northern Virginia, so those in the U.S. may be able to request their library system be added to the CD mailing list.

OK, calling all US librarians here! We need you to contact the Marine Band to receive this recording for "educational purposes" of John Williams fans. ;)

Wonder if this will be a new recording or the one conducted by Williams in 2013 that's been available all along (albeit in lossy form)?

Pity AirmanJerm isnt a marine...

Definitely no pity here! Lol. We'll probably get this for our stockpile at work - we typically get most of them, although there are some that we miss sometime.

I assume you're talking about the CD (which also includes material by other composers), not the Williams fanfare -- which has been available to download (for free) for a long time?

The CD now has its own page: http://www.marineband.marines.mil/AudioResources/EducationalSeries/BeGladThenAmerica.aspx

And the MP3 of the Williams piece is now available for download from this new site:

http://www.marineband.marines.mil/Portals/175/Docs/Audio/Educational_Series/be_glad_then_america/For_The_Presidents_Own.mp3

I'll have to compare this MP3 with the other one that was available in the past.

UPDATE: This performance is indeed different from the Williams-conducted version available on the Marine Band site, and appears to have been conducted by Lt. Col. Jason K. Fettig and "recorded June 16-20, 2014 at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall at Northern Virginia Community College, Alexandria campus" (per the liner notes which can be downloaded in PDF form HERE).
