To Kill a Mockingbird and Breakfast at Tiffany's are favorites. Why is Breakfast at Tiffany's listed as 2013 instead of 1961?

Well, because it seems this previously unreleased score was released for the first time by Intrada in 2013.

I've just discovered that "To Kill a Mockingbird" 1962 LP was reissued on CD in 2014. Need to look for this one!

I know you have your own way of doing things that doesn't always make sense to me, bu it might makes more sense for everyone else if you put the actual year of the film first and then maybe the album reissue in parentheses at the end. Just sayin'.

As for favourites, it's hard to say. The Prokofiev album is fascinating because it's the only time he's recorded an album of classical music as pianist. But I love the jazz stuff.

You're missing quite a few things, though, like the LUCKY TO BE ME album he did with Jessye Norman.

John Williams plays the piano on that one, you are right, I added the info.

Is there others that I don't have in my list?

Williams was one of the pianists in the orchestra on the original soundtrack of Jerome Moross's classic western score for The Big Country.

Any source for this one?

EDIT: Ok I found one, added, thanks!

He plays on one Track of the Boston-Pops-Album "With A Song In My Heart".

Added thanks!

I remember he did the honky-tonk piano on THE FLIM FLAM MAN.

Is he credited on the album? Do you have a source for that please.

I read it either on my long-sold FLIM FLAM MAN cd from FSM or it was mentioned in FSM mag,the Goldsmith buyer's guide editions. If you really want this info, you should contact FSM's Jeff Bond since he is the leading authority.

He plays piano on two early Jerry Goldsmith scores: City of Fear and Studs Lonigan.

I seem to remember he was also session pianist in some of Herrmann's Twilight Zone scores.

Bespin included those on the list above, but curiously set the date to when the albums were released just a few years ago, not when the films were released. So I can see why you missed them! :)

We can't rewrite history, it's a disco, so I use the date when the albums came out first.

It tells ALOT, whatever you think. ;)

Of course, but I would probably do it like this instead:

1960 - STUDS LONIGAN (Jerry Goldsmith) [soundtrack released 2002]

etc.

On your discography, there is absolutely NO information that the film and music are from 1960, not 2002. Could be worth pointing out for those who are not into your system.

It's a level of detail that I must add, definitely. You know making such a disco is a lot of work, and it's a work-in-progress.

These little threads about the disco allows me, by the back door, to add missing entries and add some details.

Thanks for your remarks, thay are always revelant. But please stop writing "your system", it's a DIS-CO-GRA-PHY :P

Hmm, so if Williams performrd on a soundtrack that was never released, it won't be on your list? Rather than having it listed with a note saying unreleased?

There's already an article of John Williams' works on Wiki, mine is a discography.

Plase don't play the game of Thor, you saw a discography before today? ;)

Well, it is perplexing when a list of albums has albums missing or on different years so be prepared to explain it often.

Didn't JW perform on his my fair Lady arrangement in 1964?

Why not include the 1961 recording of breakfast at Tiffany's? http://www.cdandlp.com/en/henry-mancini/breakfast-at-tiffany-s/lp/r117284578/ or the pink panther that he performed on?

The album "My fair Lady" by Shelly Manne & his O is indeed in my disco page, but with the following credits : "Arrangements & Musical Direction by Johnny Williams". If you think he also plays an instrument, please show me a source.

About the original "Breakfast at Tiffany's" 1961 album, I think it contains some re-recordings of the music heard in the movie and JW don't play on it. The real score was edited in 2013 for the very first time.

While Williams reportedly played on "To Kill a Mockingbird", he's not the pianist on the album, as that one is a re-recording. The actual soundtrack remains unreleased.

Regarding "Breakfast at Tiffany's" Williams wasn't on the piano on the album released back then. It must be noted that he isn't credited either on the Intrada release.

Should I delete "To Kill a Mockingbird" 1962 album from the Disco then?

By 'retrieve', do you mean 'delete'? If so, yes, I think so. As Miguel said, Williams did not perform on any of the score's rerecordings or albums, only the film soundtrack which has yet to be released.

(personally, I would keep it on the list and just note 'unreleased', but I know by now that's not how you do things).

Sorry, but after verifications your two picks appears to be recordings where JW don't perform, I already removed Mockingbird from my disco, and I wait for some confirmations to remove The 2013 Intrada release of Tiffany's too.

I removed Tiffany's from the list and from the disco as we clearly have no evidence that JW performs on the 2013 CD.

It's the only instrumental classical music recording Williams made as a pianist, and as such of historical value. I haven't yet been able to properly appreciate the compositions themselves, though (although Williams' performance is flawless). I'm hoping it will grow on me.

Is it the first time that LLL reissue a score that features John Williams as a pianist like that, and not as the main feature artist?

I seriously doubt it, although the site wants you to believe it's our John Williams. Because if you click on "Johnny Williams" in the performer section early on, you're taken to the RHYTHM IN MOTION album which obviously is OUR Williams.

In February, 1954 -- when the tracks in question were recorded -- Williams was still up at the Pepperell Air Force Base (a couple of months later, he would be transferred to March Air Force Base in California).

But this period of his life (late 40s to mid 50s) is extremely confusing, with lots of overlapping information from different sources.

(of course, there is the SLIGHT chance Williams had one of his "leaves" in his army service, and took a trip to NY to record these tracks, before heading back north to St. John's).
