No, we got a story told through action, and acting rather then through the exposition that you so frequently complain about. A superb example of world building, far superior then Guardians Of The Galaxy, a film which you still seem to champion.

It was a remake, just like TFA, but with a forgettable Mad Max. Really, if action isn't the main course that you are reading too much into it.

I liked that Max was an interactive background character for a larger canvas story.

I am disappointed in you. You, of all people, should have seen the light.

Do you like it? Well, then I'm only being consistent. I mean, when do we ever agree?

We agree that Ridley Scott made three good films and that Kingdom of Heaven wasn't a bad one.

Thelma And Louise isn't bad either. What do you think?

I can see it winning a few of the technical ones, and Best Costume Design.

It would deserve most, if not all, of them.

I don't care for this category all that much, because it doesn't seem to mean a whole lot. There are numerous examples in the Oscar history where it went to, shall we say, questionable titles. But the other categories can be measured and judged quite fairly, given tha they are being picked by specialist in each area. So I'd say a technical achievement in cinematography or editing has more value than "best picture", no matter what people say.

George Miller WILL Direct More Mad Max Movies… Eventually

“That was a completely garbled interview. I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review,” he said. “She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another ‘Mad Max’ movie] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another ‘Mad Max.’ It won’t necessarily be next, but I have two more stories.”

I was wondering:

Mad Max is an action/fantasy movie and is nominated for 10 Oscars. (usually a bit difficult for films of such genre).

Is this the new Star Wars?

(Haven't seen the film)

The Best Animated Picture one or whatever it's called also doesn't seem to mean much in the same way (not to mention how they use it as a dumpster to avoid having animated movies on the best overall picture category...).

I agree. Plus, Academy doesn't really acknowledge a larger world of animation. It's just Pixar all over again. Boring.

I imagine that's partially influenced by the preference over there to award local production over non-American productions. It's generally about self-promotion.

But there's four non-Pixar nominees for Best Animated Feature and no Pixar nominees in the Best Animated Short category...

My post was an offensive way of saying they nominate the safe stuff all over again (with few exceptions)
