Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year is one of James Newton Howard’s greatest scores of the 90s … Wolfgang Peterson’s Outbreak (1995). This one is huge in every way. The score itself is an epic and exotic action tour-de-force. Outbreak was one of James Newton Howard’s own favorite scores back in 1995. He, and we, wished the original album could have been longer. It was no easy task keeping this score to 30 minutes. Some expansions round out a release that was largely representative in the first place. Outbreak is such a massive work that this Deluxe Edition comes very close to being a complete premiere. It’s now over 100 minutes long! For James Newton Howard fans, this one is not to be missed!
A dangerous airborne virus threatens civilization in this tense thriller. After an African monkey carrying a lethal virus is smuggled into the U.S., an outbreak occurs in a California town. To control the spread of the disease, a team of doctors is brought in that includes a contagious disease expert (Dustin Hoffman) and his ex-wife (Rene Russo). Once the Army intervenes to handle the situation, though, the doctors must fight against the clock to save the town and its residents.

Probably not one for me (unless the full score is a much better listen than the OST), but it's good to see them going in this direction, and expanding their 90s 30-minuters.

Now if they can do Dante's Peak for its 20th in 2017, that'd be great!

I guess you guys simple haven't been listening to good JNH, because he is more than able to do great action and suspense music. In some of his scores he even wrote themes and developed them, pretty mind-boggling...

Outbreak just is middle of the road JNH.

I already have this version but your post has reminded me to revisit it. So thanks.

It's definitely more rewarding than the original OST, with a wee bit of trimming.

I just received the Deluxe Ed (Thanks to JWFAN!).

If I understand well, the OST was disappointing because so much action cues were left over, right?

So what about the expanded program?
