Naïve Old Fart 9,508
Question for you Jerry Goldsmith fans. How is the score to Psycho 2? Does it compare to Bernard Hermann's original? It's as effective, and as good, in its own way. The main theme is lovely-yet-lonely, totally befitting the character of Norman Bates. The "slasher" music is good, also. It's not as original as "Psycho", but then, what is?It's more listenable on album than Psycho 1. True, dat!I will say that, although I appreciate the original, "Psycho II" is preffered film of the two, if only to watch Denis Franz.
Uni 306
Okay, folks. Time to get back to it. You've had the length of an entire season and more to give this some thought. Those of you who haven't settled on your Top 10 Jerrys need to start doing some prioritizing. The list so far is interesting, but needs some more votes to settle things (particularly the end of the list, which has a lot of room for flux at this point). For those of you who've already voted, you still have a chance to review your choices and decide whether your opinion has changed on anything. The floor's still open to both submission and revision.

Bespin 8,480
Yesterday I discovered the score from The Sand Pebbles, the original recording. I found it rich and various.... But a little bit dated regarding the sound. This morning I'm listening to the re-recording... Ah I found this is a better way to taste all the exotism of this score. Purchased! Brundlefly 2,385
Oh shit, I didn't even know about the 1997 re-recording! Sadly they use the alternate Overture with the boring Love Theme. Tadlow's re-recording on their Blue Max release has a way more precise performance and recording and uses the original Overture with the Chinese Love Theme. But they only re-recorded a few tracks. Thor 7,478
The re-recording of THE SAND PEBBLES is all I ever need. I tried the original recording once; didn't do much for me. As for THE BLUE MAX, I never really cared for that score in the first place, in any incarnation. Sold my old Sony(?) release from the 90s ages ago. Bespin 8,480
Am I wrong if I say that "Soarin' over California" is a major and loved work of Goldsmith, and yet, it cannot be found on any CD compilation of him?
