The CD version probably omits a lot of redundant tracks. It'll probably be all you'll need.

True.  But I'm perfectly happy to make a playlist and only own it digitally.  Fewer and fewer scores I feel the need to own on CD.  Pretty much just my few favorite composers still working.  All due respect to Silvestri, I love many of his scores, but he's not in that club for me.

I don't see a digital pre-order at Amazon, so is this iTunes only?

It's not Friday in the USA yet.  It will be on Amazon US at midnight PST tonight.

It's a new score by composer Alan Silvestri to a comic book movie called "The Avengers: Infinity War", which opens in theaters tomorrow.  The OST album is on Disney Records.

The score was put on YouTube this morning, it stayed up a whole hour or so. Gave it a listen -

Spoiler

it's a whole lot of blah, bland, blerg. Nothing stood out - no themes besides Silvestri's Avengers theme from the first movie.

Though I didn't make it all the way through before the playlist was removed.

I do think Thanos had a theme

but I really cant quite be sure

Well it can't be Avengers AND Harry Potter AND Alien 3.

(it's Alien 3)

The ISO score isn't a music release.

It's also full of film edits, etc.

This will be the first-ever expanded album.

I'm listening now, I'm on track #16.

So far, its really pretty bland.  Nothing is really standing out.  There's tons of action music, but its all pretty similar to each other as well as what Silvestri's done before.

I like the dark/brooding music that I assume is for Thanos, but a little goes a long way and there's a lot of it in this presentation.

I wonder how succinct and tight the physical CD OST will be instead....

Yeah for some tracks I wouldnt having truncated versions (which are probably on the CD)

I do like some of the action pieces (primarily at the start and ending, the middle meanders a lot)

After seeing the movie, I was bitterly disappointed Silvestri didn't reference Elfman's superior hybrid version from Ultron. But it was nice hearing Captain America and the tesseract themes pop up again.

Whoever expected that to happen?

I didn't expect him to do it.

It would've been nice if the Russo Brothers asked him, though.

But better than what Henry Jackman would've done with this.

Does anybody know if these show up on the soundtrack at all? I think the tesseract theme is in the Undying Fidelity track, but I haven't caught Cap's theme yet.

Listening to it it sounds like there’s some good stuff in places but I don’t think I’ll be able to listen to the whole thing. Way too much modern blockbuster noise

There's a nice 40 minutes presentation of all his new ideas in here somewhere

Whipped up a comparison betwixt the normal and Deluxe OST. Almost every track was extended for the DE

Seems the CD does skip a few of the tracks I already felt were skippable

(allthough I think Field trip was one of the more fun tracks)

also I feel like a lot of tracks are just patchworks of different scenes

Like 'One Way Ticket' is 4 scenes rearranged in a nonsensical order

I can say one thing, I can certainly tell this OST was made by Silvestri, unlike with the first Avengers.

The action stuff has that Predator/BttF feel to it

Just finished my second listen of the OST - on much louder speakers this time - and appreciated the score much more than my first listen yesterday

It's looooong, though.  Not the style of score I enjoy listening to for 2 straight hours.  I look forward to checking out the shorter version.

And yea, Field Trip is indeed a highlight track, I noticed that one this time

I couldn't understand why people thought the first Avengers score sounded like Zimmer. No it didn't.

Maybe because he used more synths than in The First Avenger.

It's not like synths are a Zimmer trademark.

When people were making this claim in 2012, I was holding my breath for some pastiche of Zimmer's drawn-out, broad strokes style... and it wasn't that at all.

In the space of 24 hours I've gone from:

CD preordered

to

CD preorder cancelled, planning on buying digital release

to

Ehhhhh, better download illegally first to see if I like it

to

Not planning on buying this soundtrack

I'm seeing the movie today though so that might change my mind.

All my hype for the score deflated pretty quickly once I started listening to it

It does improve on second listen though, and ideally starting with the 71 minute version for a while and only delving into the 2 hour version later is probably the way to go

Okay, let me guess.. You guys hate or dismiss this score at first, post continuously about what a disappointment it is, film music is dead, all hope is lost...then weeks later, the thread is updated with posts about how the score's starting to grow on ya! How suddenly there's actually some interesting stuff here!

I've got ya'll figured out. ;D
