I remember reading the History of Middle Earth series and about the Trotter with wooden shoes. Thank you Tolkien for "finding out" who Strider really was before committing that idea to the final book.

Incanus, Mithrandir, Gandalf, Tharkûn, Olorin. Just add Bladorthin to the list.

There's nothing new that is not known already in this clip but I'm just gonna post this all the same:

Nice ditty remix of the Shire theme there.

Anyone else heard the BBC radio dramatization of the books? Haunting, deeply English score by the late Stephen Oliver. I have fond memories of listening to these tapes during long family car rides when I was younger.

There's about 9 hours of this stuff. I've watched about 6 so far. The extras are fine, even if you get almost nothing on Shore's music. A bit differently structured than the LOTR ones.

But what's really disappointing about those films is the "SW prequels effect" - almost all blue/green screen, actors not acting together, escalation of CG, very few locations... Ian McKellen seemed to have a pretty miserable time on this film, judging from those docs.

Well at least he got a scene or two with actors in the White Council and the dinner scene with Elrond. ;)

Well, not really. Because Christopher Lee wasn't there. They used his stand in and then shot the rest of it in London. Yeah, on green screen.

I was more depressed by watching McKellen's breakdown (at first) - that he doesn't want to do this film and all.. At least he seemed to have enjoyed working with Blanchett.

Except OSWT was in the 70's/80's.

the original LOTR trilogy was in the 2000's.
