Pope was hired to do a job professionally and efficiency and he did so.

 

He wasn't hired to gush over Shores music as if it was the second coming. Thats why we have Doug Adams.

 

Pope is perfectly entitled to his professional opinion.

I think he's talking about it more in the context of difficulty of playing the music rather than the quality of the music itself.

John Williams never gave much of an impression that he thinks particularly highly of his own work? How is this any different?

Although, and I say this with the comfort of anonymity, the "professional" part of professional opinion is sometimes curiously elided by Pope.  He's a great guy and is for the most part classy, but sometimes he raises my eyebrows.

Saying "it will take time to do this, it's complicated. This isn't LotR" is not an insight, nor is it intelligent. It's comment that could have been made by a rabid Williams geek here on the board.

I still don't quite understand what he meant by that. It does come off to me as some indication that he thinks less of Shore's work.

It's also worth noting that he stresses how it's a job, and you do what you're asked to do.

 

He acts like if Alain Ducasse was asked to cook a burger.
