Virtual Reality! Are we already living in an artificial world?

Recommended Posts

They say the VR technology of our future will finally be here soon. Maybe because in the last few generations our brains have been conditioned to accept value and importance from an object that doesn't physically exist! The amount of money on your bank account isn't something that is real. It's a virtual representation of the money that has value, had it been molded and stamped in metal or printed on cotton paper!

We have eliminated the need for money to actually physically excist without there being anything material or tangible to exchange.

Another example. Internet friendships. There is no way to form a human bond with anyone unless there is a strong emotion attached to it. Either affection or rejection. Yet the physical person who the emotion is attached too is impossible according to the laws of physics.

Maybe it is the concept of the web! Billions of electronic signals being sent and received every second of every hour in time! It mimics perfectly our own brain. Perhaps who we are on here is who we really are? Despite being virtual not physical!

Are we ourselves already virtual reality?

Discuss!

"Reality is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people. It is probably virtual.

If you're familiar with Swedish philosopher Nick Bostrom, he would tell you it's very likely that we're part of a simulated universe already.  You're already living in a virtual reality!

I wonder what a virtual JWFAN would look like...

Have you read RPO?

There's this cool idea of virtual chat rooms where your avatars are 3D.

My only experience with VR is my Google Cardboard, which is a cool novelty, but is really blurry.
