rainierjmartin 0
I've been a lurker on this forum for a little while now and I'm amazed at all the wealth of the knowledge here! I'm sure many people here agree that engineer Bruce Botnick is one of the best, if not the best recording engineer for film scores. His work on Jerry Goldsmith's scores, Alan Menken's work, and especially my favorite from the maestro himself E.T., sound so clear and warm even compared to today's modern film recordings. I've always wondered: How does he achieve this? What is his "secret" if there's even one?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
He's just very good at his job. Marian Schedenig will remind you that he also mixed for The Doors, btw... rainierjmartin
Unlucky Bastard 7,782
Don't forget Temple of Doom. I dunno, he has better ears than most? rainierjmartin and Gruesome Son of a Bitch
Quintus 5,399
Analogue and some grizzled pro secret sauce. E.T. is the best recording of orchestral music I've ever heard. Gruesome Son of a Bitch and rainierjmartin

Jay 37,336
In the thread title, you're asking about his mixing process. In the message body, you're asking about his recording process. Two different things! rainierjmartin
rainierjmartin 0
Haha sorry about about that you're right! If anyone has knowledge about both processes, then that would be awesome. His recording and mixing process are some of the best I've heard.
Gruesome Son of a Bitch 6,488
Star Trek V also sounds incredible. It's drier than hell. Goldsmith's theme never sounded better. rainierjmartin
