Could anybody please help me, in how to find out if the man himself is making his annual appearance at the Hollywood Bowl this year? (2017) And where I can purchase tickets? Any help is much appreciated. I live in the U.K, And have family in LA and have never been, and couldn't think of a better excuse to go.

Hi! Welcome to the forums!

Last year the Williams Hollywood Bowl concerts were announced on February 9 (http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?/topic/26098-john-williams-at-the-hollywood-bowl-sep-2-4-2016/).

We don't know for sure if he will make an appearance this year. (he didn't in 2015, for instance, although that was a year in which he had some health troubles which have long since been resolved)

Thank you so much Will. Already more information than I have been able to get so far. What would you recommend as the best way to find out as soon as possible?

Well, assuming you don't want to always be keeping tabs on the endless threads that get started on the forums (although the news will definitely be posted there pretty quickly!):

1) Frequently check the JWFan home page (http://www.jwfan.com/). Ricard, the founder of this site, usually posts important info there, although it can take a couple days.

2) Of course, visit http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/ and you should see when this summer's schedule has been announced.

3) I might be able to send you a personal message which would go to your email -- but no guarantees! There's a good chance I'll forget!

The best way is to became a daily reader / contributor to the forums, then you'll surely see the thread bumped as soon as there's an announcement :)

Welcome!

Yes, as previously mentioned the schedule for last year's Hollywood Bowl season was announced on Feb 9th. The previous year around the same time (with no Williams performance, just E.T. Live to Projection).

For the past 2 concerts I've tried both Ticketmaster and various ticket re-sellers. Ticketmaster will release all their unsold inventory to the public around the end of April/beginning of May.

Ticket re-sellers like Stubhub, TicketZoom and others will have tickets posted much sooner as people who are season members of the Bowl will re-sell some tickets there. The inventory will come and go over time. Be warned you WILL pay additional service fees, shipping and/or delivery fees and even other possible extras so make sure you check out all the details before you commit on one of them.

Myself, I first bought a seat on Ticketmaster for the 2014 concert but found a MUCH better seat later on Stubhub which I bought and it was worth every extra penny it cost. Each site will have different levels of fees as well and many people will list their tickets on multiple sites so checking around can save you some money for the exact same seats.

Last year I watched all the sites with a section in mind and when I saw a great deal come up I bought on Ticketzoom. I bought a pair this time in the same section but closer to the main stage and again, they were worth every penny.

Depending on your budget, and considering this is likely a once-in-a-lifetime event for you, you will be able to determine what sections of the Bowl to look at for seats. I am no Bowl expert but I can give you a bit of advice from my experiences there, parking or transport, getting around and overall experience. I'll say that no matter where you end up sitting you will have an amazing experience.

FYI, I sat in the same garden section both times. The Bowl has a strange numbering system to their sections/rows/seats. First I was in 562 and 2016 363. Not cheap seats by any stretch but fully worth it!

I'm sure there are LA locals who can provide much more info but as a tourist I'm happy to help someone else have a great JW HB experience! I can even tell you how to take a tour past some really cool places not that far from the Bowl itself.

Where in the LA area is your family?

Would you be staying with them or looking for hotel options?

LA is a pretty general term used by non-locals to describe a massive area of land that can take hours to travel through even if only going short-ish distances.

How long would you come for? That is a holiday weekend in the States so prices are likely to be higher than at other times, potentially.

What else would you like to see/do when in SoCal?

Lots of questions I could pose to help you out having planned 2 trips and hoping to plan a third for this timeframe again.

There are also several members here who live in LA. They might have some suggestions (although if your family is there you might not need it).

Locals are of course a great resource, but they also come with the bias of being local and not always aware of things that tourists encounter. More information is always a good thing to help make good decisions.

Just found this from the HB site which confirms the info of when the schedule will be released, as well single tickets will go on sale via Ticketmaster on May 7.

Tickets will be available before then at places like Stubhub.com, Ticketzoom.com etc.

  • 2 weeks later...

The "Movie Night" concert for Sunday Sept 3rd has been removed from the limited summer schedule. Wonder if it's in anticipation for announcing another 3-day weekend of JW concerts?

And a Google search reveals that the page was available two days ago with the following description: "Continuing a Bowl tradition, legendary composer John Williams returns to ..." :)

It only seems to be for one concert, though.

Only 1 concert was posted originally, the Sunday Night "Movie Night". Friday and Saturday have not been listed at all.

Last year Friday and Saturday were revealed on Feb 9th to be the John Williams/David Newman concerts which were extended to the Sunday "Movie Night". 2 years prior (as there was no JW concert in 2015) it was only Friday and Saturday.

Actually looking at the season schedule now it appears a number of concerts have been removed or possibly changed, on the official Hollywood Bowl site at least.

Also, why the thread title change?

Because it reflects what we know (so far) about this year's concert. There may be more performances, but Sunday, September 3 seems to be very likely at this point.

When do tickets usually go on sale?

How can you afford to go to all these concerts???!?!?!!?!1!!?!1!?!1

Kidding!

Once the season schedule comes out people with season subscriptions will begin listing tickets on various ticket exchange sites including Ticketmaster.com, Stubhub.com, Ticketzoom.com and so on. The Hollywood Bowl will list tickets to the general public directly around the beginning of May. The exact date will be known when the full summer season schedule is announced.

By a regiment of strict abstinence when it comes to not spending money on things I don't need and very careful spending of money for things that I do need. Like food.

I've learned to make 10 days worth of perfectly healthy freezer dinners for prices like €10-15.

I was teasing you, man. Saw the silly faux outrage towards you in another thread. If you can make it to SoCal (and are allowed to enter the U.S. of Drumpflandia) then more power to you.

The full schedule is likely to be announced in the next 10 days or so. Last year it was on Feb 9th, a Tuesday, so possibly the 7th this year.

Movie night has been re-listed on the limited season schedule. The time changed from 8pm to 7:30pm. Nothing else is listed with it.

Still not sure where it ever said anything about being a Williams performance.

But Oh, Oh, Oh Oh Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh Oh the NKOTB are playing the 'Bowl June 2nd. Guess they've got the 'right stuff'!

I explained it earlier in this thread:

A search for "hollywood bowl" 2017 "john williams" on Google reveals the following page preview:

Which means that at one point that was the description of the September 3 concert.

No announcement yet today :(

There are, however, already listings on Ticketzoom for the Sunday "Movie Night".

http://www.ticketzoom.com/tickets/hollywood-bowl/t2223882/movie-night-tickets.aspx

Also, in 2014 this Sunday performance did happen after the 2 John Williams (with Seth McFarlane) performances on Friday and Saturday but it was a tribute to Hitchcock conducted by David Newman.

http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/sites/default/files/media/pdfs/press-kits/2014/2014_hb_chronological_listings_-_new_additions.pdf

Quote

Sunday, August 31, at 7:30 PM THE BIG PICTURE: HITCHCOCK! HOLLYWOOD BOWL ORCHESTRA DAVID NEWMAN, conductor EVA MARIE SAINT, host Suspense! Sinister plots! Mistaken identities! This year's Big Picture is a thrilling tribute to the classic films of Alfred Hitchcock. Mesmerizing, haunting and psychologically gripping scores by Bernard Herrmann (Vertigo, North by Northwest), Dimitri Tiomkin (Strangers on a Train, Dial M for Murder) and more will be played live while spellbinding scenes are projected on the Bowl’s big screen.

. So don't go buying tickets for this yet, until there's an official confirmation that it is also a JW concert.

Geez the wait was starting to get to me!

As stated before general public tickets will likely go on sale around the and of April/beginning of May. However selection will be somewhat limited. Ticket re-sell sites like Stubhub and Ticketzoom will have people posting their seats for sale shortly and their inventory will change all the time. These will start as seats from Bowl subscribers and the selection will be a lot more than what will be available on Ticketmaster. However you will pay a premium, so shop wisely.

Now I need to make some crazy travel arrangements as I need to be on a cruise ship by 2pm EST on the Satruday, and the ship sials from Florida. Hmmmm....

Great that these concerts will be happening, even though of course I won't be there!

Also great to see more Potters going LTP! (even if we'd been told it was coming) Hope HPSS makes a stop by here soon.

There are others as well but these are the 2 I've used in the past for various events.

And $320 isn't anything crazy at this point in time.
