Nah.  Maybe I'll watch it if it hits HBO next year or something.  The original just isn't the kind of anime I like.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets on both fronts. Not sure why I picked the film... probably because it is an unknown commodity and I always had a soft spot for overcooked, over-enthusiastic and ridiculous The Fifth Element. If it can't be good at least here's hoping it will entertain me. And it also seems like a perfect type big project for Desplat who might thrive away from Hollywood system that tends to dilute too much.

For what, Ghost in the Shell?  Have you seen the original movie?

Yes, and no.

I'm sure I could find much shorter, freer, more private movies if I want to spend my time leering at somebody.

Leering?

Why dont you Google it instead of asking people what it means?

leer1
lɪə/
verb
gerund or present participle: leering
  1. look or gaze in a lascivious or unpleasant way.
"bystanders were leering at the nude painting"
synonyms: ogle, look lasciviously, look suggestively, give sly looks to, eyewatchstaregoggleMore

Oh I know what it means, I just found it odd that he assumed the reason to see an attractive person lead an action film is to leer at them.  His words, not mine!

Now there's a word I've never seen before!

After looking it up to see what it is, I see we call it acetaminophen here.

I really like adventure movies, so for all intents and purposes I should be excited about there being so many new ones.

But they seem to be all kid's films or very much plagued by "modern movie syndrome", which really dampens my interest.

In the end, I picked "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" for the film.

I've found something to enjoy in all the previous films, even though all sequels have been MASSIVELY flawed.

I sincerely hope that this will be a step UP, though I am not at all expecting that.

The teaser trailer did an incredible job at completely and utterly dis-interesting me.

For the score, I am most curious about "The Mummy by Brian Tyler".

The film looks like "modern and gloomy dreck" and I haven't got a clue what is the point of it at all.

But Brian Tyler can, occasionally, come up with some fun music.

If he allows some upbeat adventure and/or exotic Egyptian/Middle-Eastern flavour to slip in there, it might actually end up somewhat enjoyable.

In the end, though, I honestly have no clue what films to look forward to this year.

Apart from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is there ANY upcoming film that even remotely approaches "somewhat old-fashioned upbeat adventure"?

Or is that something that now only applies to some extent to Marvel Superhero movies?

Kong: Skull Island ?

The Book of Henry ?

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets ?

Jumanji ?

Kong seems to be dripping with "modern movie syndrome".

I liked the Peter Jackson version; not sure how they intend to make this one better.

It does look different though, so they've got that going for them. (Y)

Book of Henry is apparently a drama. Could that be fun?

Valerian is barely on my RADAR. Might be worth investigating though.

Jumanji definitely counts though!

Not sure what approach they'll end up taking, but at least they hired a good composer.

That might be an indication that they've got their intentions in the right place. Sure hope so!

At least one more after AC, to link it directly to the original.

Hey, those are my initials! Does that mean Alien Covenant is not going to suck?!

Films:

Blade Runner 2049 (why is it not in the poll? Who authorized this?!)

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2

Film Scores:

Meh

Better or worse than Wonder Woman, Fast and Furious 8, and Guardians of the Galaxy 2?

Haven't seen any of those yet. WONDER WOMAN premieres here in Norway next week, F&F I missed the press screening of and GUARDIANS I deliberately avoided because I hated the first movie.

Thankfully, there are still several titles to be seen, from the list of the first post, so that ALIEN: COVENANT hopefully doesn't stand all alone as the only great summer blockbuster this year.

It's a shame there hasn't been one score for a big Summer blockbuster yet that I'd want to listen to more than once.  The samples for The Mummy sound boring as hell, but I'll give it one full listen.  GOTG2 and Baby Driver at least have great songtracks (can't wait to see Baby Driver).

The score was indeed boring as hell.

I'm not usually one to reminisce about the golden days of yesteryear, but in this case, I found myself constantly thinking of the brilliant 90s/early 2000s scores by Goldsmith and Silvestri for the two (wonderful) MUMMY films by Sommers. I was hoping Tyler would at least rise up to the occasion in a few moments, but he didn't. Anonymous, boring wallpaper.

I saw The Mummy too, a bit back. Considerably worse than all three of those as a film (I quite liked all of those, didn't care much at all for Mummy), score-wise probably the least too, though not too much so as they're all kinda on the generic side (WW had its moments though).

I actually have never listened to the albums for 12 or 13; I should rectify that!

The 11 album bugs me with all the dialogue over it.  I'd love a specialty label to do a box set of all three scores
