Disco Stu 15,495
Very nice! The North Texas Wind Symphony is an excellent ensemble. This is one of my favorite Williams fanfares, personally. curlytoot
Matt S. 492
The album cover says Broughton is one of the composers....does anybody know which piece is by him?
Dixon Hill 4,233
Probably not a JWFan piece.
Disco Stu 15,495
Their performance of Mackey's "Frozen Cathedral" is one of my favorites. It's on YouTube. airmanjerm
Miguel Andrade 1,260
Awesome! For The President's Own is probably my favourite of his celebratory short pieces. Disco Stu

It's a wonderful exercise for the brass especially! The complex, interweaving parts for the trumpets are breathtaking. Miguel Andrade

That's surprising. My favourite will always remain "Celebrate Discovery", I think. Miguel Andrade
Miguel Andrade 1,260
Celebrate Discovery is surely a favourite too, though I must confess that I'm more of a fan of his later output. Music for Brass is another that is just awesome.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Celebrate Discovery is a piece I am especially proud of.
Disco Stu 15,495
This album was released today, I'm listening to it now. It really is a glorious performance and recording of "For the President's Own." I continue to find this composition completely exhilarating. I'd love to hear Williams continue to "explore" the textures of a wind band like Broughton, whose "In the World of the Spirits" really showcases the immediacy I find so exciting about string-less ensembles. It's a first-rate album! Highly recommended. Oh! Also: I was already familiar with Mackey's "Wine-Dark Sea" but if you are reading this and haven't ever listened to it, now is the perfect time to discover one of the coolest pieces of music written this decade.
