Gollum's Song

Into the West (sometimes my favorite, depends on my mood)

May It Be (grew to love it after repeatedly playing the CR)

In Dreams (same as May It Be)

The Last Farewell (the lyrics aren't anything special, but the sentiment is right and the style fits with the others)

I See Fire (get your damned dirty pop music away from middle earth!)

Song of the Lonely Mountain (ya ya ya ya)

She loathes gingers.

By the way, not to give you more work @Fal, but that updated version I put up last night is probably much more worthy of your complete edit. :)

Into The West, Gollum's Song, In Dreams, and too a lesser extent May It Be are all pretty good, hard to pick a favorite.

The Hobbit songs are all skippers, I don't find much to appreciate in any of them.

I just can't get into it at all for whatever reason.  Actually, after the first half of the first CD, I have a hard time getting into the rest of the BOFA OST albums.

I liked it when I first heard it, and over time grew to like it less and less.

Just recently, I listened to the DOS OST album CDs in my car, and when I got to that song, I really just didn't like it at all.

It's especially a bummer with AUJ because Shore's end credits intro is SO good, but since it leads into the pop song it doesn't function as well as an independent piece

May It Be / In Dreams (joint first)

Gollum's Song

Song of the Lonely Mountain

Into the West

.....

The Last Goodbye

I See Fire

I See Fire is an utterly pathetic excuse to try to capitalise on Ed Sheeran's popularity. The film didn't need a song (maybe only FotR did) and this one doesn't mesh with the film at all.

Yea, I don't think he had anything to do with that end credits song, including the intro. James Sizemore, or someone probably whipped a quick arrangement up.

I don't think he ever stopped caring for Middle Earth music, I think he stopped caring about working directly with Peter Jackson

That was probably when Shore came to terms with the fact that he won't be able to work to Jackson's method any longer. And that's when he began loosening the reigns on his own usual method.

That the Jackson/Shore collaboration on the Middle-Earth films had to end on such a low note is a damn shame. A damn shame...

You said it Bloodboal, you said it.

Imagine how different things could have been if Guilermo directed The Hobbit...

You know? I actually never considered what the del Toro/Shore collaboration could have given us! When I thought about how the movies could have turned out, had Guillermo stayed on board, I always thought more about the story and, more importantly, the visual aspect of it all. Never did it hit me the score itself could have been quite different. Hey, who knows? Maybe with Guillermo, there would have been no Plan 9 involved, thus there would have been no Company's theme as we know it. Maybe what we consider to be Shore's own theme for the Company (beginning of The Edge Of The Wild) would have been much more prominent!

Exactly!

Don't you people forget "In Dreams". That counts, too.

I would also put "Use Well the Days" somewhere it there.

Well why not throw Misty Mountain Hop and The Battle of Evermore in there while you're at it!

From Ramble On, my head somehow immediately jumped to "unfitting pop/rock songs in medieval films", specifically A Knight's Tale.

I did not know there was a Led Zeppelin-Tolkien connection before.

Indeed. And Juno award winning RUSH has a Tolkien inspired song as well.

This is pretty far afield from the topic at hand, but hearing "Freewill" on the radio when I was about 11 is a musical watershed moment in my life; it transfixed me.  And I didn't have internet in those days so I went weeks thinking about that song every day without even knowing what it was or who Rush was, since the radio DJ didn't ID it.  And I totally thought Geddy Lee was a woman.

Does Gollum’s song mean nothing to you?!?

Heck yeah "I See Fire" is the best one.

Just classic stuff:

I've seen fiiiire and I've seen raaiin

I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end

I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend

But I always thought I'd see you again

Not really familiar with the rest, to be honest. Gollum’s Song is great.

Is it possible to be familiar with those 3 but not "Into the West"?
