Has anyone noticed the bizarre and awesome similarity between the bridges of Across the Stars (OST: 2:01–2:25) and Catch Me If You Can (OST: 1:55–2:13)? The melody is more or less the same!

I know it's not a coincidence, hence the tag 2002  I'm not a native speaker though... I meant bizarre as in "almost identical".

There's a few unreleased passages in WOTW that overlap with unreleased underscore from ROTS too.

 

Plus the obvious COS and AOTC stuff.

This passage fits into Across the Stars more organically than Catch Me if You Can, IMO. The CMIYC bridge is kind of abrupt and jarring, and the AotC connection only adds to that effect.

Yes I noticed this similarity probably back in 2002 when listening to these two scores. Must have been the effect of writing 4 scores that year. Some material bled from one project to the next, especially considering the suspense scoring Williams did for all of those scores.

I also noticed the similarity and I suspect it's completely intentional: that passage in CMIYC plays during the opening credits when "Music by John Williams" appears on the screen. It may be a sort of musical nod to himself (his recent self at that time).

This was "news" around these parts when CMIYC was first released. I recall reading it after hearing it and noticing the exact same similarity. Data, that was 15 years ago.

Funny, because in the case of AOTC, I find that passage a little too melodramatic, but of course it's supposed to be.  But the CMIYC passage is a favorite of mine, with jucier harmony, and it's orchestrated in such a groovy, swanky fashion.
