Popular Post Marc 758
How to Train Your Dragon was scored for one of the biggest brass sections I've ever seen, no less than 4 trumpets, 6 trombones, 2 tubas and 12 french horns (!) I re-recorded all of the horns and trumpets from the Counter Attack cue, fun stuff Incanus, James, Simon McBride and 5 others
Loert 2,510
Oh, so you covered one of my favourite cues from one of my favourite soundtracks ever? Awesome! Yeah, the brass section in this is crazy. That Eb-Bb dyad at 2:35 is played by 6 horns on EACH note. Add some high woodwind trills on top and you've got one of the most glorious and powerful sounds an orchestra could make. I also LOVE that trill chord at 2:27 you bring out so well. It's just perfect. Brilliant arrangement and performance as always. Keep it up! James and Marc
Marc 758
Thanks man ! Yeah that is one fantastic cue I especially like this section, love how the horns are answering the trumpets there and vice versa : Loert

karelm 2,903
These sound great! Have you thought about using virtual sound stage? It lets you place the audio sources in a 3D virtual stage so your section sounds spread across a wide stage. Though I can hear your panning, you don't quite get a sense that horns occupy a part of a room (so horn 1 is closer to center than horn 4 for example) and similarly to the trumpets. Sounding great though!
Marc 758
Actually I've always wanted to try out something like this ever since VSL's MIR came out ! ( I remember that one cost an arm at the time...) Will have to try VSS, and I just saw MIR now also has a demo version ! Looks like I'll give them both a try then Also, I'll add my JW covers to this thread Incanus and James

Will 2,215
Your Frozen one sounds terrific!! I was just coming here to post it when I saw you beat me to it. I hadn't heard this song before (I'm like the only person I know who has never seen the film haha, except for of course the annoyingly popular "Let It Go"). But it sounds really terrific, and great playing and arrangement. Marc
Marc 758
Thanks man ! To be honest, I think Let It Go is the worst song of the whole score.. While this one is absolutely gorgeous ! Those melodies, the chords, the arrangement..I just love it 😃 Will

As a strictly musical piece, the reprise of the main melody in Epilogue proves it's splendidness, in addition to that ending statement of "Do You Want to Build A Snowman?". Marc 758
I just love it when chords are unpredictable in a song.. And there's that awesome chord progression in the chorus where it goes from an Eb to an A7b9, which is absolutely delightful ! SteveMc
Popular Post SteveMc 2,674
For the First Time In Forever is marvelous, and you did a great job on it Marc! The song does such a wonderful job in establishing theme and character, from the bubbly euphoria experienced by Anna, to the darker undercurrent going through Elsa. Like you note, some wonderful chord changes accomplishing this here. The composer, Bobby Lopez, by the way, is a Williams fan, and has said that he draws on John's work. As for Let It Go, the power anthem delivery and production does it a disservice, making it seem an almost wholly positive liberation anthem, when it is really only a part, and a quite negative part, actually, of Elsa's development as a character.
