Will 1331 Report post Posted August 22, 2017 https://www.bc.edu/alumni/events/pops.html?utm_source=alias&utm_medium=alias&utm_content=20160302&utm_campaign=pops Quote Join us on Friday, Sept. 29, in honoring John Williams with the President's Medal for Excellence and enjoy the music of Keith Lockhart and The Boston Pops Orchestra with special guest performing artist Jennifer Hudson and Medal Ceremony Chair Chris O’Donnell '92. Williams apparently conducted at the 2007 Pops on the Heights fundraiser (article: http://newspapers.bc.edu/cgi-bin/bostonsh?a=d&d=bcheights20071001.2.103), but it is unclear if he will do anything this year (perhaps a piece or two?), given that Lockhart will be there. 5 Cerebral Cortex, Ricard, crumbs and 2 others reacted to this

Thor 1353 Report post Posted August 23, 2017 Yes, they are. Silly goofball events just so that the academic staff can mingle with celebrities. To my knowledge, Williams has no academic connection to Boston College. 1 Will reacted to this
Richard Penna 354 Report post Posted August 23, 2017 Yeah, I've struggled to find any reason for these honorary degrees beyond the institution just wanting some attention.
Will 1331 Report post Posted August 23, 2017 Maybe if I can get my high school to award Williams an honorary diploma, he'll come conduct for us.

Ricard 606 Report post Posted October 11, 2017 Excerpt of an article on the event from the Boston College website: Quote According to Boston Pops Conductor Keith Lockhart, the event’s musical program paid tribute to the orchestra’s “quarter century of performances on one of the most beautiful college campuses in the world.” Selections performed by “America’s Orchestra” were drawn from the past 24 concerts on the Heights, and included an homage to the evening’s honoree, John Williams, that showcased his compositions for the films Superman, Empire of the Sun, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and Star Wars. At the event, the President’s Medal for Excellence was presented to Williams, who has been a friend of Boston College—including several guest appearances as conductor at Pops on the Heights—and a supporter of education and students for many years. Photos from the BC website: And here's a full recording of Williams conducting the SW main theme (unfortunately the video starts vertical, and so it continues on YouTube). 1 Mari reacted to this
