And so soon after Twin Peaks. But he had an impressively long life - he's been old since I first became aware of him in Alien.

This seems to be a nice overview of his work:

Clearly there's a lot of his stuff I still have to see.

It's an extraordinary film.  So many amazing shots too

Some really great imagery & cinematography in that film too. This scene feels especially fitting right now.

I thought he didn't look good in Twin Peaks.

Stanton was also great in HBO's Big Love together with the late Bill Paxton.

R.I.P.

Pity his last role was that pointless cameo.

Twin Peaks: The Return wasn't his last role.

Rest in peace, he was one of my favorites.

HelllooooOOOOooo!

I've seen you use this a few times and I think you have a specific tone and inflection in mind when you type it, but I'm not sure exactly how it's meant to sound in my head.

There were a lot of problems with Twin Peaks: The Return, but I don't really think their use of Harry Dean Stanton was one of them.  His bit in Fire Walk With Me was much more useless.  He had some lovely moments in the car accident sequence especially.

Lynch: Hey, Harry, want a part in Twin Peaks?

Harry Dean Stanton: Sure! What kind of part do you have in mind, David?

Lynch: I dunno ... but I'll come up with something.

Anyways.

One thing I always liked about Harry Dean Stanton, and the mark of a great character actor, is the ability to take a character who isn't much on the page and imbue them with something special that makes you remember them.

Alien is a great example.  So is Pretty in Pink.

Good stuff.

think the first thing I ever noticed him in was The Green Mile, but it would have been followed very soon after by Alien and Cool Hand Luke.  13 - 15 years old was when I was discovering so many movies very ravenously.

I gotta have Mae West sit on my face 'cause I'm one horny motherfucker!
