If there was no John Williams, whose composer fan you would be?

I guess that most people's here favourite composer is John Williams (since they're here).

So, if there was no John Williams, who would be your favourite film composer?

Meaning you would actively participate in a forum about him, follow his news, get most of his releases, etc.

Please pick just one!

Without hesitation, I'd say I'd be a JGfan! (Jerry Goldsmith)

I probably would never have gotten into film music, and quite possibly orchestral/classical music.  I can't overstate the impact Williams has had on my musical direction.  He prevented me from having an Hoobastank phase.

I already do this for a ton of other composers, sans the message board, because JWFan is the only one you need for all of it.

If there was no John Williams wouldn't that affect quite a few younger composers working today, whose inspiration was Williams? I would pick Giacchino, Howard Shore or Thomas Newman.

to pick one:

Thomas Newman

Yea, this have never been a forum that only discusses Williams news; All film music news is discussed here.

Well, it seems like a fairly easy question to answer. I'd just move one spot down on my 'favourites' list, and there I'll find Danny Elfman. But the fact is that I've been less enthused by him in later years. Well, to be more precise, I still love his drama scores, but his big blockbuster action sound, I can hardly stomach. So perhaps I need to go to my third, who is Elliot Goldenthal.

Williams existence would impact the nature of the universe and unleash powers you can't possibly understand.  One simply cannot remove Williams from the equation and assuming everything else would remain the same.  Half the composers working today probably wouldn't be in the business were it not for Williams. In fact, they might not be around at all. Allow me to elaborate.

It's well known that then Soviet Premier Leonid Breshnev forgoed (or forwent, if you must) a nuclear first strike on the west after hearing a black market copy of the Star Wars OST LP which had been smuggled into Moscow.  "I cannot in good conscience destroy a society that can create music of this kind" he's reported to have said.  So it's quite possible that JW saved all of civilisation.

So the answer to the question is, none. You'd be dead.

Charles Aznavour, in fact I was a fan of Charles Aznavour (who is also a composer , not only and author), before being a real JWfanner.

Few know that Aznavour onyl wrote the music from la bolème, the lyrcis are from Jacques Plante.

Three of songs for he composed only the music:

Charles Aznavour & Josh Groban - La bohème

Charles Aznavour & Sting - Love in new every day

Charles Aznavour & Julio Iglesias - Que c'est triste Venise

I go by my alternate username in well...."other" places that cannot be named (I'm assuming that) where my custom edit work has been known to worm its way into film score fans' ears from time to time.

That name I use is JHFan.

There IS a John Williams, but I am most certainly a JHFan first and foremost....and no, I don't mean Joe Hisaishi.

Nice to see another Jan Hammer fan!  Miami Vice music is great!

Not sure I'd even be a film music fan, if not for JW!

But if any one name pops up, yeah, it'd be Jerry Goldsmith!

I have to second that exact sentiment.
