IIRC the album version is one take all the way through, while the film (and therefore LLL disc 1) version is mostly that same take, but they intercut to a different take for a small section for a performance issue - I just don't remember where

Although "Adventure on Earth" went through a massive transformation.  Still sounds bright and vibrant... as always... but you can tell by looks at the waveforms how much work was put into that cue specifically.

Could you elaborate on this, please?

The back cover says 77:57 for CD1, and Kiss has 0:41. It would fit.

I bought a 2cd case.

Then, I put the ost in one.spindle.

NEXT , place the 2002 CD in the other spindle.

Finally, take the front and back covers from 2002 and place in jewel case. Take the ost booklet and place it behind forntage with cover showing.

Voila! E.T. 2cd special edition!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😍😍😍😍😍

In case you missed it,  the OST reissue can be found in the 4k Blu ray release. But no bonus cues etc.

You missed it. It's sold out / out of print.

If you are OK with vinyl instead of CD, that is still in print:

https://lalalandrecords.com/e-t-the-extra-terrestrial-limited-edition-vinyl-2xlp/

However that doesn't have all the bonus tracks the CD version did.

You can find 3rd parties selling the OOP CD on Amazon or Ebay

No. You don't have the 1996 CD (the sound is better than the 2002 CD), the OST vinyl picture disc, and, of course, the LLL 2-disc set.

It's not enough.

Isn't it wonderful? This is one score for which I think the expanded presentation is SUCH a better representation of the score than the OST. For me, the OST basically comes across as a repetitive collection of well-written concert suites and alternate versions. So, like, I'm very grateful to have it, but if I want to go on a musical journey, the sequencing in the film is the way to go. My only complaint with listening to the score that way is that the softer cues in the first third get a little old for me. They're very nice but they just last, like, one or two tracks too long. I have a playlist that slightly reconfigures the LLL release to incorporate things like "The Kiss" into the main presentation, and I briefly tried actually removing one or two of those shorter tracks. I may go back to that at some point.

Anyway, yes, this LLL release is essential and I'm so grateful it made it into our hands! Can't believe it's already been three years.

Yes, why would you put a concert arrangement of the Flying Theme right after the concertised Halloween with an extended Flying section at the end? Or interrupt the fantastic Alive/Rescue transition only to play an arrangement of the Suburbia theme which is featured heavily in Rescue already? It definitely feels more repetitive.

Yep, it's a concept album. But these bozos think it "gives away too much too early" or something. As if those themes stated early are... a spoiler?? There's no way you could make that score as it was in the film chronologically really sing on a 40 minute LP unless your goal was to make most of Side 1 and some of Side 2 a hard slog of dissonance and near silence. The album recognises the overall score's limitations in accessibility, so it wisely highlights the musical ideas across the board.

On the OST record I missed cues I heard in the film.

When I had the score CD I missed the suites from the OST.

I had to wait for the LLL 2 disc to get everything I desired combined.

But in the meantime, when I listen to E.T. I play the OST (disc 2).

I have no problem with him creating a new "concept album" listening experience for the OST; the score does indeed have long stretches of similar material. I also love every individual track on the OST. I just think it's a crappy program in the middle. Doesn't flow. That has nothing to do with the chronology of the film - I just mean on a purely musical basis.

Honestly, the biggest culprit is "Flying" being right after "E.T.'s Halloween." Even if you just switch "Flying" and "Over the Moon", you already end up with a vastly improved program. Or if you want to deviate further from the film, put "Flying" right after "Three Million Light Years From Home", letting "E.T.'s. Halloween" lead right into "E.T. Phone Home." I prefer either of those options over the sequence we got on the OST.

I never thought of that but, I do see your point about FLYING.

It's misplaced.

The thing is, it's original incarnation wad LP and that cue was the last on side one.

The practice in.those days was end a side with a STRONG cue.

Tis.what it is.

Fair point about the LP! Makes more sense in the original setting than when they released it on CD.
