Arpy 4,145
The 80's are ripe for setting sci-fi/paranormal action/adventure films and television series, but which of these two do you find better - Stranger Things or Super 8? You decide! I think Super 8 has a better well-rounded story and a better score, but I think it also would've been great as a series too, with more room to develop characters etc.

Arpy 4,145
I was considering adding the Goonies, but both Stranger Things and Super 8 are more contemporary.

Bilbo 3,709
You’d have ended with a poll where people just voted for the Goonies. Both Stranger Things and Super 8 should have “from the guys who saw ET and the Goonies as kids” on the poster. Not Mr. Big
Jonesy 55
Super 8. Also, I'm a big fan of Giacchino's score.
Unlucky Bastard 7,782
I'd never heard of The Goonies until Varese released the soundtrack, and never saw the movie until 2012.
Quintus 5,399
The Goonies had no effect on manchildren. Actual children only.
Laserschwert 473
"Stranger Things" (and Sean Astin in it) actually made me want a Goonies TV-series even more.

I didn't fully watch it until a few years ago, I had friends and colleagues who have fond memories of it and I didn't understand why. I like the film now, but nostalgia has a big part to play I guess...
Thor 7,463
STRANGER THINGS. SUPER 8 is a good movie, but ST is better at capturing the spirit of the time. Arpy
John 2,032
This is rather an unfair comparison. Super 8 is one 2-hour film, while Stranger Things is a series with 17 one-hour episodes and counting. Stranger Things is far superior, though. Jay 37,281
I enjoy both productions, but overall probably enjoy Stranger Things more Pretty pointless to compare a tv series to a movie, though
Nick1Ø66 4,687
Stranger Things. I thought Super 8 was a bit overrated, and that Abrams didn't quite nail what he was going for.

It is a very good comparison between two genre bending stories. both feature two entertaining casts. Granted the differences in the story telling but tv and movies get compared all the time. I liked both but I connected better to Stranger Things, the horror was more real.
