THE LAST JEDI - Score as heard in the movie thread - SPOILERS ALLOWED

It's really not a very good scene. Very clunky all around. Finn's revelation was underwhelming; not that it was some courageous move, but he did have a gun to her head when she turned down the shields, and I find myself agreeing with Phasma that no one would believe Finn's story. Finn's dialogue was pretty bad as well; "squeal like a woop-hog" is just a terrible line, like something straight from the prequels. Not that "Let's go, chrome dome" in the final scene is much better, but still.

Then the end with Finn on the ground finding the gun and blowing Phasma off the platform is very anti-climactic. Very glad this scene was cut.

At least this offers proof that Phasma was supposed to die

Was there ever anything to suggest otherwise?

The argument I saw in the YT comments which made the most sense was that we saw her armor was blaster-proof, why couldn't it also be fireproof? Obviously, that's stretching for an argument a bit and falling into a giant explosion on a ship broken in half, probably resulting in her falling into space wouldn't be a healthy experience even in fireproof armor (with the helmet broken, btw).

We don't need to rationalize it too much. Star Wars isn't hard science fiction, anyway...

The point is that from a narrative standpoint: a) Phasma has already lost all credibility; b) were she to return, it would require explaining within the film (this isn't the kind of thing you can relegate to a book) which JJ wouldn't want to undergo.

@King Mark For you:

not clean but we hear the cue pretty well. The cue seems unedited after all

not sure how you did this, but can you make more videos of the unreleased music?

great, the sound is a bit better than "rear channels" from the previous movies and the Prequels

can't wait to hear what were missing from the OST and FYC  in more detail

This is an exceptional case where the lightsaber is the only other sound in the scene, and apparently it isn't present in all channels.

Added 7 more cues to my playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1z6z6BqRVmLJMY5hP7__AMgP08igTJFG

  • Luke Remembers His Academy And Maintain Our Current Course
  • The Stable
  • The Casino Starts To Shake
  • Anybody Need A Lift
  • Rey and Ren Chat Again
  • The Dark Water
  • Fighting in the Rain

5.1. I know it would be better with a 7.1 rip but I couldn't find one.

That's good then because it means we can get the music even cleaner once the Blu-Ray is released!

Thanks so much for posting these, Chewie! Lots of little unreleased gems!

I'm loving being able to more clearly hear the music during Rey & Kylo Ren's elevator ride. Some great, subtle material there that alludes to Snoke's (admittedly rather amorphous) leitmotif and the newish stuff in his chamber in the next scene. And that tiny snatch of Kylo Ren's theme at :22.... :)

Oh, and that little gesture as they enter the chamber, Bb2-G2-Db3-Dnat2! -- so close to the figure that's heard when they approach the Pit of Carkoon, and another nod, accidental or not, to Uranus from Holst's Planets. [The basically verbatim quote of the Uranus motif that happens in ROTJ before Vader's death scene is assuredly not accidental. Hey, Herrmann did it too...]

Huh, never noticed that after all these years.

Thanks a lot Chewy! I've been waiting for this march in particular!

Edit: I have a feeling this march appears elsewhere but I'm not exactly sure where...

Oh I love that track, I was so disappointed it wasn't in the FYC album. This is the second best Holdo's theme !

I also love that little Jedi Steps hidden in here followed by a nice version of the Force Theme and even an Emperor theme quote a few seconds later!

The start of that cue is stunning! It feels familiar, is there something else in Williams' work (Star Wars or not) that resembles that use of strings/woodwinds? It has such an aching sadness, you really feel Luke's pain.

Can't wait to hear Finn & Rose Escape and more of those awesome trumpet flourishes from early in the film (as Resistance ships get destroyed).

Maybe if you cut from 0:27 right to about 0:59...

Ethnic instrument-heavy parties often melt my heart but this...

Both look like alternates, rather than omitted sections of the final cut of the film. Rey becoming dissappointed in Luke in this deleted scene was probably there instead of that wierd cave or possibly even the flashback to Luke's attempt on Ben's life.

Now that I don't believe. Both the cave and the flashback have other scenes leading into them, and this one's basically fully finished so it must have been taken out pretty late. I'd say all of them were in the movie until he realized this is just hammering the same point in, and adding more stupid pointless "humour".
