Did anyone else think there was a possibility Luke was already dead and that’s why he couldn’t / wouldn’t leave the island?

That was my first thought when Kylo's sabre went through him (that RJ pulled a Shamalyan on us).

What is it with Star Wars and more than one set of nipples on creatures? First that dancer in Jabba's palace, now this.

All the better to milk you with.

I actually think Gibson would make a kick ass Star Wars film.

I think his name would singlehandedly alienate the online vocal liberal base.

Many were already devastated that his last film was nominated for so many major Oscars including best picture best Director and even won 2!

His name is like cancer for liberals.

He couldn't have been a projection the whole time, he physically interacted with Rey and his robes fell down when he passed. (Unless he also projected his robes being swept away for the audience?)

The Force Ghost thing (Obi-Wan, Yoda) has always interacted with the physical world.  Obi-Wan pushing aside tree branches on Dagobah when he walked with Luke.

The Projection thing (only Luke at the end of TLJ) apparently can't - although Leia and Kylo interacted with the dice, which were part of the projection.

You just presume to judge people based on broad terms like "liberal".

I did not create the liberal/conservative groups nor the semantics used to identify them. They exist, predate me and I just use them. As does everyone else.

And yet all his films have great kernels of humanity and emotion to them.

Superb filmmaker!

I myself have no opinion on his work. I would like to see more of his work before having any opinion. But I am definitely interested!

Did anyone spot the 27B/6 gag?

I read about it. JW also quoted music used in Brazil for the Canto Bight casino. But I've never seen Brazil so it went over my head.

Luke cannot have been a dead projection for the entire movie because it makes no sense for a ghost to have a daily routine. Why would a ghost repeatedly reject the idea of giving the spark to the Resistance, then need the counsel of another ghost, an assumed equal, on the same ascended plane of consciousness to change his mind about it?

Seems that it takes a lot of energy and effort for a Force ghost to reappear in the real world, as it only happens fleetingly (yet in just about every movie where it can). Maintaining that charade for the entire film is silly.

He could just project himself to every FO soldier and scare them into just jumping out airlocks.

Here's the two year old question: What if Snoke was just a Force projection the whole time?

He clearly wasn't. But what if JJ decides he was...

It is a little ironic isn't. And I guess Abrams will feel free to do whatever he wishes...including revisiting the issue of Rey's parentage.

I doubt that. Remember Kennedy gave Johnson a trilogy on the strength of TLJ before it was even screened for critics.

They found the direction they want to take this franchise.

I don't think so. Kennedy gave Johnson free reign on TLJ, there's no reason they won't do the same for Abrams (and Johnson has basically said as much).

Anyway, I don't think whatever Abrams does for the next would would need to impact whatever Johnson's plans are for the new trilogy.

Well, maybe not quite:

ALIEN NUNS

(singing)

How do you solve a problem like the Jedi?

How do you strike a balance in the Force?

How do you find the words that mean the Jedi?

Some affable fuckups? Some well-meaning wimps? Or worse?

Original script:

KYLO REN

Your parents were Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade

Han Solo and Leia Organa

Darth Plagueis and Snoke

 nobodies.

*RJ: yeah, that's saved me some trouble...*

That wasn't clear. It was the first thing I asked those who I saw the film with after it finished. Maybe Chewie was on standby somewhere waiting to pick her up???

Oh, and she managed to pick up the two halves of her broken Lightsaber...

I figured she got in contact with Chewie when she took Snoke's ship via radio or whatever they use.  Rey knew the Rebellion was retreating to Crait and must have met him there.  Why she ditched Snoke's ship is anyone's guess.  I assumed his ship would have weapons or some form of defense and would be useful for the battle.

Oh wait; I didn't pay attention to what that linked to; turns out I had already read it.

Well worth the time and effort of a read-through though! It's very illuminating.

For those that are interested (courtesy of thedigitalbits):

And file this in The Rumor Mill, but a number of our retail sources have checked in with word that the tentative street date for Disney’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD is 3/27. That sounds about right, but the date could still shift a little bit until it’s officially announced. We do know that the Blu-rays will include about 20 minutes of deleted scenes and, one would imagine, a trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story as well.

That is sad to hear... I mean, I also questioned it the first time I saw it and wasn't sure what I thought, but after seeing it a second time and with the time that passed, I think it really is a good movie! Once you accept the things that might surprise you at first, you come to realize that it's a damn good movie.

So to hear that some people don't even want to see it anymore because of the harsh critiques we hear on the internet (because yes, the bad ones are going to stand out most over the good ones), kind of saddens me a bit. People shouldn't be so hard on it. At least I think.

TLJ is a good film, two years of hype-building expectations and broken fan-theories are why there is this backlash and vocal disappointment. Strip away the awkward Leia scene, get over Snoke's premature death and Rey's parentage and you're left with one of the best Star Wars films made, probably since ANH and ESB.

Is TLJ a great film, a perfect film? Fuck no. I have problems with it and after seeing the film I was speechless, I didn't know what to think or feel because I felt betrayed that my expectations weren't met. But weeks stewing on it, listening to the score and conjuring up imagery of the film, my thoughts have solidified and they're largely positive.

It's disappointing to see the backlash, but also how that backlash and misinformed word of mouth have affected this film's reception. Someone hears all this bitching and takes it on face value without seeing the film and making their own mind up.

Goes to show if the original trilogy were released today they would be analyzed to death and Empire would be considered a mess and disappointment.

Analysis culture: how to ruin everything by intellectualizing.

Disagree. I think this is the fifth best in the series. I don't think one can "strip away" that much stuff and be left with "one of the best" in anything
